Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

UNH might have had more talent but not the better team. MC was a better team

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

I wouldnt think many MC fans would make the
trip...fair weather fans.

Your use of the term "fair weather fans" is not proper. Saying that would denote that the fans would only make the trip if the team was playing well. ... the team just finished arguably their best season of all time, the reason that many fans won't be traveling to Maine is not because they are fair weather. My point here is that in order to say a fan won't do something because they're a fair weather fan...the weather has to be unfair.

And I think Hokey is right; overall, MC had the better team and a hot goalie down the stretch which can do wonders for any club.

Maine has the worst hotel/motel set up in D 1 hockey. One full service, the Black Bear inn. Even that hotel is avg and next closest spot, bangor, has hotels that make the cabins on the side of Rte 9 look good.

Anything north of Portland is always an adventure

True... Shocked to see gangs actually slinking into Bangor, Waterville etc and so many problems with drugs etc

What a shame

Bangor has a dozen middle of the road hotels. Gee are we accustomed to staying a 5 star hotels near Merrimack or Lowell? And those hotels would be as far away as Bangor is from Orono, 10 miles! Waah, Waah!

Predictions for tonight?
3-2 loss, Alfond continues to be an unsolvable problem for us. I hope I'm wrong though.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

and da costa will be in the lineup as well

And Nyqust, Dimmen, House and Dee for the Black Bears. Maine only has about 3 guys on the entire roster that would have been worth of the last few Shawn Walsh teams and first few Whitehead era teams. Flynn, Abbott, O'Neill. Last time I checked, Maine had two goaltenders who couldn't even stop a beach ball last season. I don't think MC wins by 3, but your sarcastic reply to Ice Warrior is funny considering Maine's goaltending issues.

all i was implying is that MC won't win by 3 goals. you said it yourself.

You are probably correct, I was just being hopeful. I think it will be tight game, both teams really wanting it.
icewarrior, always good to see a new poster (although you need to work on your current average of 7 posts/year). FYI, it generally reads better when you write your comments below the post that you have quoted. Otherwise, you look like one of those folks who report scores/make predictions giving the lower score first ("....ya, I think Maine's gonna take this one, Merrimack 2 - Maine 4).

Thanks for the advice. I hope to post more this season.

I agree, I'd like to see the Flanigan line stay intact. Don't know enough about the freshman to have an opinion.

Expecting a bit more from Broadhag this year. He had a strong frosh year, 10 goals and good on the pp, but seemed to take a bit of a step back as a soph.

I think we'll see Velleca and McCarthy factor in this season. This team will need some guys to emerge from Da Costa's shadow & obvious influence. I believe it will happen but with some rough spots on the way.

The defensive pairing of McCarthy and Bigos will be absolutely bruising. They will shut 'er down on the defensive end of the rink all night long. Up front, I see Bly, Bates, and Brodhag having breakout seasons. Tonight, Merrimack breaks the Alfond curse with a big 3-1 win.
