Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

well, it is official. the 'ZOMG WE WON THE SEASON SERIES AGAINST BC - TIME FOR INTERNET ORGASMS!!!!' award has officially been passed from vermont to merrimack. how did that paper banner work out for the catamounts this year? may the warriors face a similar rebuilding season next year!

no one stays on top forever, boys.

so...how do people feel about the disparity in rest/travel for the warriors, big factor, kind of a factor?

Well, it's not like they're traveling from Alaska, so jet lag won't be an issue. ;)

No factor. These are 20 year old kids in great shape. Games are fun, practice sucks. They'll be good to go against BU.

Look at it this way... they were traveling to play 2 games in Nashville on 1 days rest. Now they're traveling home to play 1 game on 2 days rest. They made out in this deal. :D

Talking about tomorrow's game, huzzah!

So, the obvious issue generated by the weather: MC's flight was canceled and they had to grab a connecting flight in Baltimore with a 5 hour layover...not an enviable way to travel. But the bright side is they didn't bus all the way down there...

I would assume the team returns to the friendly confines of Merrimack on late Saturday or mid-day Sunday, so that gives them 24 hours to practice and adjust to the jet lag. Then it's normal game day preparations.

This team's mantra, according to Coach Dennehy has been "no excuses". If they can match BU's intensity and execute their game plan in a short week--I will be very impressed.

Merrimack will have just as much time to prepare as BU. BU plays Harvard Saturday night, so that's 2 days for each team. I agree with FiveHole- I don't think it'll have any effect. They should be well over traveling from Nashville by Tuesday.

Well I'm sure if you asked Dennehy whether he'd prefer playing BU first, then travelling through bad weather to play two against a team that they can play at 60% and still easily beat, or play those two, travel back and play BU less than 48 hours later who played only one game and didn't travel, he'd choose the former. Still probably shouldn't affect the outcome much, if BU plays another ho-hum, lackadaisical game, they'll lose.

Dennehy can respond if he wants to. It was an open question to the thread readers. ;)

Five hour flight, about the same as a bus trip to Orono. The Orono trip is probably longer because they probably stop to eat, stretch the legs, have some fun etc., so it could be a 6-8 hour trip, on the day before the game.

The five hour flight will be on Sunday, 2 days before the game. Rest on Sunday, practice Monday, play Tuesday.

Maine trip... long travel day, play the next day. With travel being considered as an issue here, maybe that's why Maine is so tough at home.

Sorry, but I don't see the travel as being a factor here. That being said, if the MC hockey team happens to dwell on it being an issue, well ya, it's gonna create a big problem for them.

a UNH fan under my skin? not a chance ( i actually root for them and wish them well as i do your team) but if you're going to preach about clensing your thread perhaps you should have told HIM to take HIS pot shots to the appropriate thread. make sense? sounds fair, no?

Pretty sure I just did. And Salvo1017 did two and three pages ago. Sorry GoUNH's invitation wasn't as deeply engraved as yours. No offense intended :)

Final Score: Merrimack 7, UAH 0 SOG: 47-24 MC

MC improves to 12-4-4

FWIW, Merrimack has scored at least 5 goals in each of their last four (granted three of those games have been against RIT and UAH x2). I really like the way that Collins has performed on the Da Costa line and how Barton has galvanized the Cucci line. You have to think we see the same line combos against against the Terriers on Tuesday.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

They dodged a HUGE bullet in the 1st UAH game; 2nd game more like it (kudos to the fan who predicted 2nd game 7-1 on the game 1 blog after the final whistle). Kinda surprised Marrotta didn't get some time in the 3rd period. Game was well in hand, and you never know when you might need him in there.

To be honest, I was a little surprised too, but it seems like Cannata is not coming out of that net for any reason. The kid is a competitor, after pulling that muscle which left him in some pain in the 3rd period vs. UMaine, he waived off the backup goalie until Coach ordered him to the bench.

These OOC games were a chance for Coach to lift Cannata, but he chose to leave him in there, now that only HEA games remain, I would be surprised if Marotta sees a start the rest of the way.

Since we beat Maine...and Maine just stuck it to BC...does that mean we're like 3-1 against BC this year? I'll have another banner stitched up :P

Here's what Merrimack will add to their trophy case at the end of the year.

Congratulations!!!

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

We beat BC twice, we beat Maine once but without a victory against BU on Tuesday...we could be in a rather precarious position:

With a win:
3rd place: BU 18 pts
4th place: Maine 18 pts
5th place: Merrimack 17 pts

With a loss:
3rd place: BU 20 pts
4th place: Maine 18 pts
5th place: Merrimack 15 pts

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

What wins us the game? What loses us the game? I think Cannata is gonna steal a close one tonight.
