Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Motzko talks very highly of your coach so I am going to assume we will see a much better effort from Calrkson tonight.
Did you go to Ylae or Brom? :D

FWIW, nobody in the college hockey coaching fraternity speaks badly of a fellow coach. Right now Clarkson stinks and have stunk for the past year+.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Wait, how did St. Cloud get blown out by Clarkson? Clarkson is predicted to finish at the bottom of the ECAC, and UNO beat them 8-0 yesterday. It just doesn't make any sense. SCSU Euro assured me that the CCHA is a joke and UNO won't be able to hold anyone's jock in the WCHA.

That holds about as much water as Holy cross being the better team in 06 then the gophers. In any game, anything can happen, sometimes the better team under estimates the other, and gets beat. $*** just happens sometimes

Very true. I'm just poking fun at Euro because last month he was convinced UNO couldn't compete in the WCHA. Over the weekend, playing the same two schools SCSU put 62 shots on net, UNO put 101 on. Guess we'll see.

And on that day in '06 Holy Cross was better than the Gophs. Tournament games aren't decided by which conference you hail from...

Regarding Clarkson on Friday nite, I am not going to climb onto any ledge and regarding Clarkson on Saturday nite, I am not going to print any Frozen Four tickets either :D

I was encouraged that they came out and competed hard after being taken out behind the woodshed on Friday nite.
It was also refreshing to have a civil and informative thread, wish the Huskies and the Mavs luck the rest of the year.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

UNO (from the RIT radio broadcast) seemed to be a little bit of a cherry picking team - leaving a guy out ready for the breakout pass. It may have cost them the first 2 goals for RIT, but most likely gave them the goals they needed for the win.

It remains to be seen if that would work against the WCHA - and particularly against a goalie that isn't making his first ever collegiate start.

The Mavericks had a bit of cherry picking, but only had one breakaway goal. The crowd really got behind the Mavs after they killed off almost a full two minute 5 on 3 from RIT, the crowd got loud for only being five to six thousand people in there. The Mavs got their go ahead goal after that. It was a fun game to watch.

I was there and I would definitely say that RIT outplayed UNO for the first 10 minutes, UNO outplayed RIT the remaining 50 minutes.

If they were cherry picking or not I am not sure I didn't see it myself and if they were, why were they able to handle RIT with 4 guys?

In any event UNO with 13 goals and 101 shots were definitely in charge 110 minutes of the 120 minutes they played on the ice this weekend, too many weapons on offense, we have 4 lines of scorers which would be a typical Blais team, score 10 and see if the other team can catch up.

So far lots of smiles in the stands :) :) :) We'll see if it continues all season long.

I too OmahaMavfan was at that game (new season ticket holder) and the energy was great after that Major penalty/and the minor that was added to it too PK. Now i notice the got 3 PPG'S and that was great improvement from Friday night. For one thing in the WCHA i know you need to capitalize on the PP. UNO was very shaky in the 1st. As far as the cherry picking is i seen it from both sides here and there but RIT likes to use a trap when UNO was breaking out dropping that winger back. It got a bit chippy for a little bit but after i think it was the 2nd then everyone calmed down and a very good 3rd. Both teams really could have used some of them shots that missed empty nets when the goalies were burned or out of place. I though was rather impressed overall by both teams, albeit some sloppy hockey here and there. Overall RIT was way more physcial team then UNO so i hope UNO can change that. Looking forward to a great season on my trips to the Qwest.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

ONly got to see UNO play RIT. RIT took it to UNO pretty hard in the first 10. After that, going to about 6 min left of the second, the teams played pretty even.

The third period was a team-building moment for the young UNO team. Killing a 5 on 3 penalty with 10 min left, was huge.

The Mavs have 10 of 24 players who are true freshmen. This is going to be interesting to see how fast they gel and how fast some of these guys can readjust from USHL to D1 NCAA. I hope they can get their passing and rebounding games polished. Both teams missed some SOG that would have been high probability shots had the rebounder been in the right place.

Going to be fun to watch them this season.

Great game of hockey last night. Props to all the teams, particularly RIT.
