Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Tommyboy, get in the car and rive to Omaha. It's a beautiful drive.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

I'm concerned that St. Cloud will be looking to knock that #18 from RIT. RIt is clearly overrated. :) :D

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Are there any Maverick fans?

Yes indeed! After reading all the replies so far I can honestly say I plead ignorance about the other 3 teams. Everyone is welcome to come to the Stampede there are always plenty of seats. Good luck.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Guess this tournament is not that big a deal to the board. I realize Minny or Wisco or BC isn't in it, but it still could be a good tournament.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

Its not that this is such a horrible tournament that there's nobody chatting it up... its that its a terrible thread. No  means no St. Cloud traffic.

Yep, Exactly...It took me about a week to find this sucker.

RIT's radio station, WITR, is streamed through iTunes, listed under college stations. So if you can get iTunes on your iPhone, you should be all set at least for the RIT games.

Hey all. For those of you making the trip here, I hope you enjoy your stay. Weather looks perfect for hanging out downtown before and after the game. If you need recommendations for places to go to eat/revel, post what you're looking for and I'm happy to help.

I'll only be able to hit the Friday games.

As far as our team. One exhibition game in the books, and this team looks pretty balanced. Lost a good senior class last year.

Faulkner is our number one goaltender, although all 3 guys got action Saturday. Our D has some youth, but good size which isn't something we're used to.

Offensively, the PP looked real good initially, not always scoring, but good zone control. Players to watch are Alex Hudson and Terry Broadhurst. Newcomer Matt White looks to be a very exciting player, and we have a couple of good senior leaders in Joey Martin and Rich Purslow.

It figures to be another year where if this team is down 2-3 goals, they're not out of it, but if they are up 2-3 goals, they don't have it salted away.

Alas, just one man's impression.

SCSU has it's own message board so sometimes we have a lot more talk on there. Of course that board hasn't been that busy either....It might have something to do with the fact non of us know much about RIT and Clarkson fans are way down on their team.

I will be there with my husband.
We have a place to stay but food recommendations are always good.
I'm looking forward to seeing a couple of your freshmen we saw play here in Waterloo last year in Montpetit and Turgeon.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

A good pregame stop that's close to the venue is The Old Mattress Factory, large place, good food, sports bar with a varied menu.

The Stadium Club is right there on 10th street, about 4 blocks south of it, small sports bar, good food.

My favorite place in the area is M's pub. Classy, yet a great dinner can be had for less than $15 a person. The Thai lavosh is very, very good.

if you like microbrews, there's a new bar on 14th and Harney, a bit off the beaten path, but it's called Foundation, and it's good beers and good prices, food is limited though.

Do you think this tournament will have better attendance than the ice breaker tournament in St. Louis?

Tell your boy I need score updates. I'm working all weekend.

Clarkson's games will be B2'd and streamed (free) over the internet. Go to www.clarksonathletics.com and click on the broadcasting links.

The sound quality of the radio broadcast varies. Sometimes it sounds like frying bacon.

Re: Maverick Stampede (St Cloud, RIT, Clarkson, UNO)

I'm not down on Clarkson at all this year. Everything I've read points to a new commitment, new mentality, and we looked pretty decent overall in our exhibition against Carleton. We've got some really speedy forwards this year and lost only three players to graduation (two of whom I considered liabilities). The last two years have been really hampered by injuries and last year also started with a a scandal that led to two incoming freshmen never attending the school.

Overall I thought we saw a very strong playoff series against SLU at the end of last year and it reminded me a lot of the coming-of-age series David Leggio had as a sophomore at Cornell in 05-06: the two double overtime games. Leggio won the Dryden award the next year. Paul Karpowich looked stellar in that SLU series and I'm hopeful he'll be able to carry that over into this season, especially with a full year under Chris Rogles (assistant coach who played goalie for Clarkson in the early 90s). Clarkson also added a strength and conditioning coach in the offseason so I'm hopeful that will help avoid falling into the injury issues of the last two years.

This series will be a great measuring stick for us in terms of seeing how much we need to improve and what we need to work on before the league games start in November. In particular, team defense and discipline need to improve from last year, as well as the power(less) play. Our special teams last year were miserable and unless we see some improvement there we could be in for another highly disappointing season. We've got at least one line that's clicking on offense already though - Freeman, McPherson, Pawlick line combined for 4 goals and 6 assists including a Freeman hat trick (one was an ENG) in the exhibition game.
