MASCAC Madness 24-25

Close run up to the tournament, drama filled playoffs, and now…. #4 Fitchburg State hosts #8 MCLA for the MASCAC Championship.

Perennial runner-ups Fitchburg State makes it to the championship for a 2nd year in a row, hoping for their first title since 2011. Newcomers MCLA are looking to upset the MASCAC as the #8 seed while playing a championship in only their 2nd season back (after cutting their program in 2003).

Season series between the two is split IN OT (with each school winning at home). Unless I’m reading it completely wrong, worth pointing out that MCLA is posting a 95% penalty kill this year. That and on 325 penalty minutes to Fitchburg’s 218. A typically chippy Fitchburg vs a wildcard in MCLA… we’re getting one of the most unique matchups in D3 this year!
Were they North Adams State in the past?

Can’t help but root a bit for MCLA… even after they beat Plymouth. Would be an insane run for such a low ranked school and would be such a boost to the MCLA community and North Adams.

That and the hatred for Fitchburg hockey still runs a bit deep (even tho half as many students go to games now as before)

The 6-19-2 MCLA Trailblazers are getting votes in the polls for the first time in program history (unless someone has pre-2003 poll numbers sitting around)

USCHO gives MCLA a whopping 1 point

D3 Hockey News showed up buzzing and gave 4 points

Someone’s betting the house for tonight

Talking to myself here but Plymouth hockey doesn’t end the season trophy-less after the women’s team wins their first championship! Plymouth and Rivier nearly break the week old record for longest D3 women’s game in history after 4 OTs. No AQ available for the fledgling MASCAC Women’s Hockey, but great way to end off the first season for the conference.
