March Madness 2012

Re: March Madness 2012

Okay, I'm certain I've seen it before, but that Metlife commercial with the cartoons is awesome.

Re: March Madness 2012

I want to kill that effing Florida cheerleader with the megaphone right next to the mic.

Re: March Madness 2012

All the East Lansing area Meijers just sold out of lighter fluid.

Meanwhile, in East Lansing

10:30 p.m. Residents are gathering on Elm Street. Mechanical engineering senior John Lusczakoski said the East Lansing Fire Department is watering down couches on the street to prevent residents from burning them.

“I saw a lot of broken alcohol bottles,” he said. “They were watering down couches so we could not burn them.”

Good grief...

Re: March Madness 2012

my brackets are dead. my wishful bracket is dead last, even (save me, Baylor!). :)

Marquette did pretty much what I expected - sweet 16, but not elite 8. A little disappointed with Crowder's performance last night.

Re: March Madness 2012

Blah. Turning out to be a bad night.

Xavier went down in flames. Ohio had a win. They just blew a free throw is seconds left. A team full of all americans turned out a really weak effort tonight...but still lucked into it.

I don't have a good feeling about Indiana.

Re: March Madness 2012

Maybe it's just me and my bracket bias, but I felt the refs just stopped calling stuff on the UNC end in the final few minutes.

With Baylor and UNC out any hope of me winning is out. Gonna root for the conference pride now. Go Buckeyes!

Re: March Madness 2012

Meanwhile, on the distaff side, in each region, the # 1 seed is playing the # 2 seed in the regional final....yawn.

It might become interesting if there is a Baylor - UConn final. Baylor is trying to finish an undefeated season, while UConn in their most recent games against teams that had beaten them earlier this season, won the rematch. Baylor has two bona fide stars in Griner and Sims, while UConn is pretty much a "who are they?" team, winning against top-level competition only when they get superior games from five or six of their players.

Re: March Madness 2012

Gophers move on to the NIT final in a thriller against Washington.
This sentence leads me to believe their previous wins weren't vacated.

"Minnesota is looking for its third NIT crown after winning in 1993 and 1998. Stanford won the 1991 title."

UConn is going to have to win a re-re-rematch against ND in order to get to Baylor. After going through a bit of a rough patch toward the end of the regular season and in the conference tournament, the Irish appear to be playing like a team on a mission right now. They eviscerated a Maryland team that was a chic upset pick with the pundits.

:) The '98 seasons were. The program (and sometimes others) like to have it both ways. Say on one side what is technically true that the wins were vacated...while at the same time saying 'we did actually win that puppy'.

Yeah, I know....and if I were an odds-maker I'd make ND a favorite, and if I were a bettor I'd pick them to win, probably with the points. My guess is that ND will win by double digits.

Still, I think a UConn - Baylor rematch would be a more interesting game. I think UConn poses bigger match-up problems for Baylor than Notre Dame will.

Funny how matchups work sometime: ND is probably a tougher matchup for UConn than Baylor, while UConn is probably a tougher matchup for Baylor than Notre Dame.
