One of the ones killed was a police officer. Doesn't that usually mean the death penalty? Did they ever determine if it was him or his brother who shot him?
I'm neither pro nor con death penalty. I'm ok that he got it and think the manner in which they kill him should be the same type of pressure cooker strapped to his chair. However, it's going to take forever to get it done, and like some of the victims' families have said, it's going to drudge everything up during appeals. If they just locked him in a hole for the rest of his life, maybe that would be better? I can't really say.
I'm glad it's more or less over. I'll never forget getting off the T the day after it happened and seeing National Guard guys with rifles every 10 feet on the platform. And then walking a block to the office on streets closed to traffic and military, state and local police everywhere. I remember going out that Thursday and watching the news and seeing the photographs released and thinking how interesting it would be if it was due to social media's assistance that they were caught. I remember having trouble sleeping that night and hearing sirens. And then waking up to find out that first we had a delayed opening due to the T, running to the tv to see what they meant by that and then not leaving my couch the rest of they day after getting the call the city was shut down that Friday. It was surreal watching it all unfold on national TV and seeing streets I drive on regularly. I decided to stop watching in the early evening, started watching my dvr but was on Twittter and then it was, like, 40 minutes later that they found him.
So many other memories of that time. I hope this gives those hurt in this tragedy some closure. And may the memories of the four who were killed be eternal.
