Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

So, once we found out the bombs used pressure cookers, I had a theory that pressure cookers would be banned.

Well, almost... http://cnsnews.com/blog/gregory-gwy...leases-statement-apologizing-pulling-pressure

One company temporarily removing pressure cookers from their shelves does not constitute a law banning them, which I think everyone would recognize as assinine given that pressure cookers have an everyday, non-violent use - cooking food.

And, if I remember seeing it correctly, only Boston area stores. Simply a respectful, and IMO the correct gesture.

Hence why I did not use the term "they did". ;) It does, however, put many things into perspective, such as the TSA banning shampoo or toothpaste on flights.

I could make a ton of explosives using every day household chemicals (not that I plan to, Officer Mike!) which haven't been banned yet. If people really want a lesson in how to make explosives, just Netflix a few seasons of MacGyver or tune in to MythBusters or a half dozen other shows that are on the air today. The original ABC News story had a diagram showing how the pressure cooker bombs were made. It was removed when someone pointed out that educating wannabe terrorists probably shouldn't be the goal of the news division.

You're stretching pretty far here to go from one chain of stores making a decision to a federal agency dictating policy for the country.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Is the purpose for each action not the same?
No, it wasn't at all. The store is a private company that was trying to keep from offending the people of the Boston area and doing a bad job of it. The TSA is trying to prevent bombings, and doing a mediocre job of it.

The troubling part is that they don't tell you the shampoo ban is sponsored by J&J.

In fairness, I don't think any commercial airliners have blown up lately, have they?

Considering they also heavily publicise the attempts, something tells me that people aren't trying. They're moving onto something else in order to see if they can bankrupt the country by means of security forces.

You may very well be right that people aren't trying. It's not necessarily because of the TSA's efforts that there haven't been any. But if their goal is to prevent bombings and there haven't been any bombings, I feel like you have to still give them at least a B or a B-. They're not perfect, but they could be a lot worse.

I wrote what you're quoting, not pirate.

TSA line drones at the airports gets tested regularly by TSA supervisors. They're not doing a very good job. The TSA used to have press releases of its test results, and the things that are verboten and still getting through was just atrocious. I remember that one guy had a large hunting knife, another had a small pistol. Some of this stuff was being smuggled on their persons, other stuff was just placed in a standard carry-on bag.

But interesting I ended up being quoted...system error? On one quote?

it might have been more than one, actually....i have to scroll back to find it, but he quoted words that I typed but they were attributed to you. I thought it weird at the time but "said" nothing.

If you read what i wrote in post # 357, then look at the quote he posts in # 358, he is quoting a sentence from the former but authorship is attributed to you not me. but when you click on the arrow in post # 358 to be returned to the original post that is supposed to be the source of the quote, you are taken to post # 270 which you wrote about lawyers, yet none of the words from that post appear in the quoted text.

They did, but they broke them. They're now sandbag "tipped" rather than spear tipped. So sad.
I have some originals. :) From what I've found, they probably have lead in them, too. Double the fun!

No, its plainly and completely idiotic based on a warped sense of emotionalism and/or stream of consciousness style random walk. "oh, gosh, this is somewhat related to that...".

The only thing I've learned at best is that Williams-Sonoma sells pressure cookers and either run by geniuses (for telling the world they sell pressure cookers) or complete idiots.

It'd be a different thing if they were advertising a "pressure cooker blowout sale".
