Maine @ UNH 10/24: Will Whitehead finally pop?

Re: Maine @ UNH 10/24: Will Whitehead finally pop?

Why is TABOR going to cut even more? Is there going to be a vote to cut taxes if TABOR passes?

huge budget cuts + TABOR means the budget will never recover even if the economy does. I'll pay more taxes if the flagship university is properly funded. Also, government's expenses usually grow faster than "inflation" when you consider things like healthcare and road maintenance have grown by double digit percentages in recent years. You peg tax growth to inflation and the only want to make up for huge increases in healthcare and asphalt prices is to cut things like academics. Remember things like food stamps and medicaid are federally funded, so don't think that barking up the welfare tree is going to solve everything.

(I would also suggest cutting UMM and one of the northern maine schools rather than gutting UM)

I would suggest getting rid of Chancellors office, biggest waste of money in the Umaine system

Maybe it's time for you guys to vote with your feet. Massachusetts is pretty liberal:eek:

I voted for representatives that helped pass the same-sex marriage laws. Too bad it is so easy for bigots and ignorant *** holes to overrule our elected officials. The "popular" thing to do isn't always the right thing to do. This is why we are not a direct democracy. Don't worry, you just helped delay the inevitable. Every day people that support gay marriage reach voting age and people against gay marriage die. Young people overwhelmingly support it, and the age group with the least support for it is the 65+ group. In 3-4 years if we voted again it would be 53% in favor of same-sex marriage, and every year that number grow. Congratulations on being a dinosaur e.cat.
