Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Far as Leaman goes, why in chits sake would he want to be a head hockey coach at a basketball school when he can literally come to Maine and , as Walrus elucidated, be a God in Orono? With actual fan support :D Of course he would. And when you factor in the high cost of living in Providence, that small difference in salary is peanuts, especially when you are approaching 200k anyway. My prediction, Leaman by way of his no comment comment is very interested in the job and he knows this area...I wont be at all shocked to see him pack up and head back to the Orono area.
My guess is he has young kids, Orono area isn't a bad place to raise a family, never underestimate what Mom might want

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

What makes you so sure Leaman will not be a candidate?

He has only been there a short time and has a contract for the next few years. Facility improvements on the way and he is building something special. I don't necessarily see him staying there long term, only long enough to command more money from someone if he continues his upward spiral.

Plus theres no Mob in Orono, as far as we can tell :D

I cant see him signing a contract that doesnt allow him to leave if he wanted to. If he had any doubt about leaving PC he would have said, "Nope, no interest in the Maine job besides my contract wont let me out even if I were". His 4 year contract with PC is so far out there hes not thinking about more pay or getting an extension. No, he's interested in the Maine job and he knows what its like to be in Alfond when its rockin, and everyone loves that feeling. He can be the man that followed the man that followed the legend. The perfect spot for him.

It's important to remember coaches have "out clauses" in a lot of their contracts. For example, Dennehy has an an out-clause towards BC that is different should he leave Merrimack to go anywhere else. In other words, not saying he has one, but it's possible Leaman has an out-clause for certain schools.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

He had his chance but had to many outside distractions. that is why when he went to BCHL and played for a 1000 game ex nhl old pro and had nothing to do but play hockley, he was a first team all star. Gets back to Boston and loses a little focus. Coaches need conformists. Have to fit into a specific slot at D 1 level. What can you do.
End of the day he got a free education, played a ton of hockey, won a natl championship, several Hockey East crowns and a few Beanpots. And more importantly, accomplished more in high school hockey wise then any of you clowns will in your entire life.

He didnt get it done at Lowell but because of his skating, athleticism etc he will get a shot in AHL next year as a forward, has already been offered a couple deals. Also has been offered an F slot in Finland. He will play again and if he focuses, might just take advantage of it. If not, he can move on with his life and look back at a hockey carear ten times better then yours...

Excuses, excuses. You are simply full of crap. Just admit it, he's not nearly as good as you made him out to be/want him to be. There's no shame in that. Everyone has been wrong before. What you don't seem to grasp is that people are mocking YOU, not Lyles himself. He will not be in the AHL, just give it up already. By the way, you recently tried to diminish what players like Mullane/Whitney/Wey accomplished in their careers because they weren't the biggest contributors on the great BC teams yet you have no problem talking about all the championships that Lyles was a part of. A player that appeared in 44 total collegiate games over four years. You are a complete fraud. How can anyone take you seriously?

Wont get the BC job either, zero chance

That's your opinion. I think he has a shot.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Jeff Cox has a source that indicates the next coach will be in place by May 6 so the returning players know who the coach will be before they go home for the summer.

would make sense.... when abbott said within the next two months, it seemed that it was more of a nod to the fact that the assistant's contract were ending and there had to be someone in place at the helm (perhaps not wanting to extend either corkum or kerluke without the new coaches input)...

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Porltand Pirates ink a new 5 year deal with the CCCC.. .....CCCC getting a 34 million dollar makeover and the Black Bears about the rejuvinate their entire program...the Hockey Gods are smiling down on Maine Hockey. A lot to be optimistic about.

44 more games then you ever played.

He didn't get invited to 15 NHL camps and didn't win bchl first team all star award because he wasn't talented. Jerry York personally drove go Deer field and offered him. Lowell offered him out of BCHL.

He didn't have a great season because he was focussed on to many things besides hockey over past year
Will get an AHL tryout/contract as a forward and hopefully he takes advantage of it.

Again, this is not even about Lyles. It's about you. How hard is that to understand? I love these types of arguments though. Why bother being a fan/posting on a message board if the only thing that matters is how many games you personally played in? This is just as asinine as your stance on Corkum/Montgomery.

He didn't get invited to 15 NHL camps

Ok, a ton of this is false/misleading.

Nobody is denying that he has raw talent. He was committed to BC because the BC staff saw his raw ability at Deerfield and figured they could coach him how to play the game as a defenseman. They couldn't...he didn't play, so he left. As far as Jerry York's involvement in the recruitment process, it's not infrequent for Jerry to do just what you say. Many HC's are less hands on in the recruiting and leave it all to the assistants. That said,, assuming your statement is factually correct, it isn't exclusive to Malcolm Lyles that he got a visit from Jerry.

While he was in Vernon, the old Lowell staff said "Hmm, well, he was good enough to go to BC, he's good enough to play for us." He put up numbers in Vernon because a) he was the only player with two years of experience practicing every day with the best college hockey team in the land and b) because the BCHL is a fire-wagon offensive league that he fit right in. That said, though "Styles Lyles" was a fan favorite, he couldn't be reined in there either.

As far as NHL offers go, nobody gets "15 training camp invites." If 15 teams are expressing interest in a player, one offers him a contract. It's simply the law of averages. Could he have a cup of coffee in the American League as a forward? Possibly, but he's not an American leaguer. The highest level that he can play consistent professional hockey in the United States - given his current liabilities - is the Coast. If he's going to have a lengthy pro career, it will be in Europe.

Unlike other posters, I don't want to get into a ****ing match with you, but those are the facts...

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

agreed.... not saying that it would happen, but the disincentive of not having him on it could have a negative impact on whatever recruiting/training is currently under way.
I'll accept that, good point on the recruiting, but the notion of Maine Hockey hiring the assistant coach again still has a stench to it.
Even with a National Search: 1. Whitehead ultimately set a bad precedent. 2. It looks like the easy way out. And as I said a couple of days ago, God help Everyone if it doesn't go well.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Again... this is important...
The problem is this (besides the long-term Guilt-by-Association with Whitehead): the thought of taking the Assistant Coach and making him Head Coach again, and HAVING IT NOT WORK OUT, will be hell in its purest form for the Program, the AD, the University. You can just hear it--- "Didn't you learn the first time?" "How the he** could you possibly do something so STUPID AGAIN?" "W.T.F. are you guys brain dead?"
The decision to name the Assistant, right on the heels of just getting rid of the last one, has a stain on it before he even begins. Not Bob's fault, but it is the case, IMHO.

Awful lot of effort to say nothing. Its like saying he was born in July of 1990 or that he played for the Golden Wolves when they Won the natls at the 88 level.

His coach in Vernon was Mark Ferner. He had close to 20 NHL teams call and ask him to their dev camps. Came down to Calgary, Toronto and Florida. He went to Fl for obvious reasons.

His roomate on that team was a kid who also had played 2 years college with Notre Dame. He will play AHL next year and prob end up I Europe. Up to him
