Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Players should be allowed to provide input, but I wouldn't base the decision on them in any serious way. They'll be gone in a couple years. The coach won't (unless something goes badly wrong)

Agreed.

Maybe if they met Jimmy they would be equally as pumped about him anyway

Corkum would have hitch hiked to Orono to tell Abbot, "hire me"
He wouldnt't have set around for 2 weeks "stunned and shocked" that no one called him.
You want the job go get it and quit the call me bs

No one doubts Corkum's desire to make his mark on the program and his desire to see Maine return to top tier program.

But unfortunately he is tainted by being part of this mess for 5 years.

To hand him the job without a real national search would not be proper but it sure seems like he is on the fast track.

First, you don't allow the players to run the show. Second, you don't allow the players to run the show.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I wanted to reach out to all of the Black Bear supporters and fans in order to connect and address all of the concerns you have about Maine Hockey. Without a doubt, our program means the world to many people across our state and I take immense pride that I have been able to compete in a Maine Jersey and Coach some tremendous players the past 5 years. With every ounce of my being, I will bring back the energy and electricity to Alfond Arena that has been missing... once again it will be the absolute best place in the country to watch a hockey game.

Our players will be held accountable to preform at their absolute best every time they step on the ice, as Coach Walsh held me accountable each and every shift. You will see, a high tempo, hard nosed physical team who can play with discipline and charisma. I understand that there is an assumed connection with Coach Whitehead, but our coaching concepts and philosophies differ. If my position becomes permanent, I would implement the culture and brotherhood necessary to instill the passion our players and fans are desperate to see.

We are all a family... And I plan to initiate a grass roots effort to do whatever is necessary to make each and every one of you feel a part of this team. This connection has been lost and our players need your support. We have to do this together, let’s bring back Maine Hockey to where it needs to be.

Feel free to call or email me with any questions or comments, I would love your input and feedback, it will help me re-connect this program to our community and our great state. (207-581-1166) robert.corkum@umit.maine.edu

Sincerely, Bob Corkum.

Well Coach, it's been less than 8 hours. How do you like the Internet Nutcases so far?

He potentially could lose his job and is fighting to maintain his livelihood. He is reaching out to anyone who will listen (including an entertainment forum), where no one has control over the situation.

Happy to have you on board...with the various parents, players, former players and of course the beloved (hated) Internet Nutcases. Feel free to ask our advice, we are more than happy to give it. All we ask is that you not take it personally...unlike some people...

I saw Jimmy at the frozen four in Millwaulkee. He was pumped to see Maine play.

I am sure he was. Had 4 great years there and was involved heavily in turning the tide in the best period of NCAA tourn hockey I ever saw. Kariya to Montgomery 1, 2, 3....
Sorry Coach Jackson

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Channel 7 just ran a feature story with Corkum, and unless I misinterpreted the news, I think they said the players signed a petition saying that they wanted Corkum to be the new head coach. What the players think should factor into this too.

Should it be considered? Sure...but how much? Not as much as the quality of the applicant pool, the resumes, the interviews and what their plan is to bring Maine hockey back to national prominence.

Corkum's opening statement is a good start.

Wish I had been at that frozen four. Unfortunately when I saw Jim at a frozen four in Millwaulkee he was a fan and not a player.

This. What do you expect them to say? They want to play for a coach they have never met and may never have really heard of? No. Listen to what the players have to say about Bob's abilities and habits and make a decision like a big boy from there.

Apparently he believes social media had some affect on Tim losing his job therefore it might have some affect on him getting one

APPARENTLY he is reaching out to the community because that was one of the things that was broken under Tim. Corkum knows his stuff. We wanted change and we got it. The future is very promising.

Certainly a common complaint heard about Tim, you can see it in FOMH. Once a strong organization, now, pretty much nothing

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Huh.......so Corkum might be named Interim Head Coach for a year and extended based upon what he does next season. Hmmm........sounds familiar.

Let's hope. If we have a five or 6 year run like we did the last time they did this it would be amazing. Some of the most fun hockey at Maine ever. Frozen 4's, 2 nayl champ GMs, triple or Hockey East winners , huge comebacks in NCAA. Some amazing streaks and fun first 5 years

We should be so lucky
