A great day for Maine Hockey! And just in time I hope. With the conference landscape changing and Crazy Parker already out, York, Jackson, Bazin, Leaman-in, if Maine gets this hire right maybe we don't get left behind.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I'm really hoping that Maine gives Jimmy a shot. Jimmy will bring excitement back to the campus.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Snippets from Steve Abbott and Peter Metcalf today. Abbott's quotes are taken from an interview he did with a Bangor station.

Tim "coached with a lot of integrity" "did a great job with the kids"
Money to buy-out Whitehead is guaranteed by President's discretionary fund
Abbott hopes to raise money through increased ticket sales to cover the cost
No coach is "waiting in the wings" "Maine ties are a bonus"
"An announcement (of a new coach) is not imminent"

The PM Jab is co-hosted by Javier Goritti, former member of the Maine team ('98). They had former captain Peter Metcalf on to talk about both Walsh and Whitehead, since he played for both.

"(Whitehead) is a better X's and O's guy" but Walsh "had dynamic personality"
"You never want to be the guy that follows THE guy"
"There are some great candidates"
"We need a dynamic guy who can recruit, raise money and get people excited to be there."
"There's a difference between love and respect. A lot of guys hated Shawn but he always had their respect"
"Someone lost a job today and that's not always a good thing"

He used the word "dynamic" at least a half dozen times in the interview. I think that's a big priority for him...

Thank god...timmay is gone.....I already called an got my tixs back...let's hope we get a real coach and return the energy and passion back to Maine hockey

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

While Tim may not have been the most dynamic personality or the most passionate bench coach we have ever seen (which us "nutcases" found frustrating when compounded with his other perceived shortcomings)...not one person on this board attacked him personally. If you ran into him and spoke with him he was always polite, friendly and engaging. He was a very good member of the community and very giving. I had a few chances to chat with him and he was always pleasant (unlike my run-ins with Martha Stewart). I do not wish him ill by any means. He is leaving with a year's salary that is 5x what the average person in Bangor makes, so I don't really feel bad for him in that aspect. I am sure he will come out of this with his head up and land firmly on his feet. Good for him. I wish Tim all the luck in the world on his next venture.

Very gracious and classy statement. A good human being who represented Maine well and for the most part brought in good student athletes who had success both on the ice and in the classroom. This team will be good next year and the next coach will not have to live with a ghost. Best wishes in the future Tim and I know you will have success wherever life takes you.

Not that hard to be gracious when your getting 190k for not working, were lucky to even get the job, rode it for 12 years and he wants to coach again so being gracious isn't too hard...

I am!!!! Still in shock this has happened, I really didn't think it would!! Literally 80% of the posts for the last 4 years have been about tim and wanting him gone. Everyone can breath a sigh of relief now! Grab some beers and enjoy them fellas tnite, good years ahead for umaine, no more cold winters.

Apparently, you don't remember the way Cindy Blodgett left.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Anyone see Sirman's Tweet? Hows it feel to get cut?

Actually Sirman's tweet shows he still has lots to learn. Mike Cornell also tweeted and thanked Tim for his opportunity to play at Maine and for all that he learned. Did not say it was the wrong decision, but also did not say it was correct. Also said that TW loved Maine Hockey. Peter Metcalf also captured things well in the excerpts I read of his interview.

I supported Tim for many years. He is a decent person who worked hard and certainly wanted Maine to succeed. But it was evident that aside from this years recruiting class and last years graduating class they were not getting the job done on the recruiting front. Also after Ben Bishop left, Maine did not receive elite goaltending, until Ouellette this year. We went through Darling, Wilson, Sirman, Sullivan, Ouellette and Morris. No question not having Grant around to work with goalies hurt and we will never know how that exit happened.

I thank Tim for the job he did and we enjoyed his first 6 years immensely and last year was not bad either! But 5 of the past 6 years were unsatisfactory. I wish him well and good luck.

Now can we please go get the guy that knows how to recruit, to coach and to lead! That guy is JIM MONTGOMERY!

You are willing to give Tim the benefit of the doubt on Grant yet Sirman has lots to learn? you have no idea what he was told

Sorry Wally where do I give Tim the benefit of the doubt on Grant???? You must be reading something I did not write. And yes you don't tweet things that are personal and in essence a reflection of your character. Unfortunately Sirman was not a Division 1 goalie. It was a bad decision to bring him to Maine because he could not adequately stop pucks. That's a fact. Again what that has to do with Standbrook I have no idea. But go ahead and rip me some more I can take it!

Yeah, some kids arent D1 goalies but have trouble understanding that. Just as some guys arent D1 coaches. Most all of us aspire for greatness; many wont ever get there, such is life

I wouldn't dismiss Tim from securing another Division 1 coaching position. Connecticut has a interim coach at present and will be entering Hockey East next year. Tim has the college coaching experience and under the right circumstances could build a winning program. He failed at recruiting the last few years, but this doesn't mean he couldn't be successful at another Division 1 program under different circumstances.
