I love Abbot's line in that article where he says:

"We've got a tremendous group of players returning"

Looks like he's been drinking the kool-aid.

what's he supposed to say... "you players suck?"

if whitehead's gone, the players will still be back... they need to believe the administration believes in them

There are several other complimentary words that come to mind such as good, solid, quality, etc, etc that would have been a bit more appropriate/believable than the word tremendous.

If Nyquist, Jimmy Howard, Paul Kariya, Teddy Purcell and Dustin Penner were all coming back next year then I could see him using the word tremendous, but with this group it's a joke.

jfc, chris. really? does it really ****ing matter what complimentary word he chose? is that choice of words going to lure a blue chipper away from bc because a published report alleged that there is a "tremendous group of players" residing in orono? who gives a ****? it's splitting hairs...

his job is to promote the athletics at maine... hey folks, come on out, we've got a mediocre team...

Miami is the UNH of the West.

Isn't that the God's honest truth though? Blasi's mannerisms also look spookily like you-know-who's.

So ... has word gotten out in the Downeast yet about Coach Whitehead's latest 3-year extension? :D

Going into this season how high would you have rated the teams going to the frozen four? I'm not sure Maine is going to be 'great' or whatever going into next year but given the parity in college hockey nowadays they'll have a chance to be very successful with a better coach.

I'd be satisfied with a team that outworked the opponents nightly, skated their *****es off, took the body in the dzone and generally was a team nobody liked to play. That's not too much to ask for is it?

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I sure hope that Maine can someday have a program like Quinnipiac, Union, UMass-Lowell or St. Cloud. Maybe they need to drop the athletic program down to D-2 or 3 and keep hockey D-1? That seems to be the secret to success these days.

Maine's leading returning goal scorer had 7 goals. I just don't see any way you can describe that as Tremendous talent.

Why do you guys keep giving credence to that a55hat from BC? He's just trolling.

Same boat as everyone else near as I can tell. College hockey isn't what it used to be. This isn't meant to be a complaint.

Actually, most HE teams are returning multiple players who had 10+ goals this season, with only VT (in addition to ME) not having any but they return 2 guys with 9 goals vs Maine with one player who had 7 goals. No matter how you slice or dice it, it is beyond a doubt that Maine is sorely lacking in talent, especially at Forward. Next year's returning group for BC is probably it's weakest in years and even then we still bring back guys that scored 21 & 17 goals.
