Maine @ RPI, 12/29/17 & 12/30/17

Re: Maine @ RPI, 12/29/17 & 12/30/17

I would have to check when it happens in Troy because it is latitude-dependent, but here in DC the earliest sunset is about on 12/6 and the latest sunset about on 1/6. The combination makes the shortest day on about 12/21. The dates get closer together when you go towards the pole.

December 29, 2017 sunset 4:29PM in Troy, NY and 4:02PM in Bangor, ME. For these two cities the difference is driven by equal parts longitude and latitude.

Isn't it dark by 4PM that time of year? Or just around the 21st?

Depends on your frame of reference.

Here in central Pennsylvania, it definitely will not be dark by 4 PM. In Maine, where Walrus is, it very well might be dark by that time.

In Troy, my guess is that it won't be completely dark by 4 PM, though the light would probably fade completely sometime during the first period.

But with the shades, it won't make any difference inside the building, anyway.

Someone best take pics to show the sun shining thru the windows at game time.

I'm on the same latitude as Troy, and there's still some daylight at 4 PM. I remember walking home from school in Orono at 4 and it being after sunset, though.

It depends on both latitude and longitude. For two places at the same latitude in the same time zone, the sun rises and sets at a later time the further west you go.

The winter days are shorter and colder in Orono vs. Troy, believe me.

Of course they are...everything associated with UM/Orono/etc is so horrible in your pea brain. I mean are you really trying to expound on the virtues of 5 minute later sunsets and 2 degree winter temp differences in Troy, NY vs. Orono, ME? They both suck in the winter! I pity the fool that has to live with you if Maine starts winning games again!

Yes, although since it is between semesters there could be fewer cameras used than usual.

Guess the sun was in Robs eye on RPIs goal

Thanks for the link. Pretty good quality broadcast.

I thought this was Vesey's best game I've seen. His patience to hold up going for a hatrick and find the trailer Doherty for that third goal was outstanding. Good team play there. Doherty played very well as well. Vesey had a good chance late in the game as well. The other guy I thought did well was Binner. He helped the breakout tremendously, lugged the puck a lot. Nice to see a rookie show confidence and carry the puck with poise.

Should be another fun watch today. GO BLUE
