Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Another goalie, intertesting

Very interesting, and I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about this. All 3 current goalies are scheduled to be on the roster at this point. You just don't carry 4 playable goalies. We're unique enough with 3. If he's really turning into such a strong goalie, I'm guessing he'll have little interest in delaying a year, or redshirting. And regardless, if Marty stays 4, I don't see a playing time window for him until fall 2014, his tentatively scheduled junior year. What does everyone think? Is this good planning (banking on Marty's early departure and sending the message to all 3 that if someone isn't performing they may not have a roster spot) or poor planning (all 3 stay 4 years, not wanting to sit on the backburner for 2 years or wait to attend college, we lose another good prospect and have to bring in someone late)

I thought that Morris is still at least 2 years away from coming to Maine.....I still don't see all 3 at Maine next season(Sullivan/Sirman/Ouellette)....don't see Sirman or Sullivan leaving....BUT what about Ouellette..? Still could go to the QMJHL and play full time for two seasons then go to where Columbus(NHL rights)wants him to continue his progress in making the NHL after that...and that is just a WHAT IF....nothing concrete except like I said WHAT IF....

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Sill was Bellamy with better hands. No point in being a smash mouth freight train if you are not allowed to hit, so no, I am sure he did not impress while he was at Maine.
He is doing very well on a very good team in the AHL.
Compare where his is and how he is doing to Moore and Leveille (and Bellamy and ummmm every forward except Teddy and Penner). And I got a good idea Levs and Moore DID impress you, right?
Levs/Moore were good College Hockey players...but NOT AHL/NHL players....not even.

That rumor is floating around

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Had a chance to see Maine recruit Jacob Rutt play in the Jr. Monarchs' game yesterday. He's very likely to supply some offense when he comes to Orono. He leads the Eastern Junior Hockey League in power play goals among defenseman and plays on the Monarchs' first power play unit (along with UNH recruit Trevor van Riemsdyk). An impressive player.

Wow, what a day, looks like Maine is establishing a pipeline with Hill, awesome, I've seen them dismantle some pretty good prep teams this year.

curious as to what "pretty good prep teams" you saw them "dismantle". Just checked their prep league results and unless you are referring to the one 6-3 win over .400 millbrook(not considered "a pretty good prep team") who else did they dismantle?

Yikes wrong Hill , my bad, but that said they still only played one "good " above 500 prep team and lost 5-2 vs South Kent. Northwood doesn't count as " pretty good" this year.

Thanks for the update! If you didn't know, Jake is from Maine. Most of my wife's family is from Scarborough. She has two family members who have taught 20-something and 30-something years in the Scarborough system, so they are familiar with, and have very nice things to say about the Rutts. :) It was written that he could handle the puck but he was the first one to admit he needed to advance his defensive game. Hope he's doing well with that, too. Interesting with Gingras dropping off and Harris moving to 2012, we're losing 3 defensemen and gaining 1. We'll return Will, Ryan, Mike, Mark, Nick and Brice. Have to imagine there will be plans to bring in one more, yet. Not a lot of size there, short of Nemec. O'Neill, Cornell, Pryor and soon Rutt can move the puck well. Let's go get some size and strength!

You're right, he is 2 years away. He's listed for the fall of 2012. But early departures aside, that will be Shawn's senior year, and Dan and Marty's junior year. Major bummer if Marty does choose an alternate route. I was starting to get that gut feeling he was going to evolve into our next rock back there.

who knows? Rumors Schmoomers :) Go win Friday night, Marty!!!

More than did Sill..?Ummm,yeah!

Both Levs and Moore were more complete NCAA players,by far.Neither one of them skated well enough to make the jump to the NHL,IMO.Yet I would take either one of them over Sill in a heartbeat,at the college level.

Best of luck to Sill just the same.I'm going to root for him,for sure.

TIMMAY just can't seem to get along with the Canadians.......:(

what other coach plays with a 3 goalie rotation?.................it seems like there is no confidence in whom Maine is recruiting.........how can one emerge if there is not a lot of playing time to develop.............maybe recruit a forth goalie to add to the cluster F......

Whitehead will make sure they all get playing time. Instead of his yearly ritual of moving defensmen up to forward he's probably stocking up on goalies so he can play a few of them at forward next.

Sill has 12 points (2 goals) in 48 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. "Very well" indeed.

Thanks for looking that up.I'm far too lazy to check facts before posting, but it sure was hard to imagine him lighting it up at that level.

Still,he must be doing something well, and I hope to see him on Versus HD sometime soon.Love seeing Maine guys in the bigs.(Right now,I'm a huge fan of the Tampa Bay Bears.)

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Heisenberg now has Connor Leen coming to Maine in 2011 or 2012. That leaves Rutt and Higgins as the only two definitely coming to Maine in 2011. Stay tuned for more developments.

Something tells me there has to be a forward we don't know about. As for D we could be all set. We have 9 on the roster, and we lose 3 which brings us to 6. Many times teams only carry 8. Provided O'Neill stays (let's hope) you add Rutt, and quite possibly Mangene moves back permanently and you have 8 d-men. However would not be shocked if we bring in at least 1 d-man, and 2 or 3 more forwards depending on whether we lose Nyquist (likely) or Flynn (possible) at the end of this year.

Very concerned at the moment with the look of next years recruiting class, all positive for Rutt, but Higgins is not exactly what I would call an impact freshman at the forward position. Would LOVE to see us go after Saponari, that would be an impact player, and with House, Dee, and likely Nyquist out he could also make a difference on power play.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Just thought id pass this along, not sure if youve seen it already but its a recent interview from Feb. 7th with Sebastien Gingras, mentions he's still planning on attending UMaine.
