Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Do you have numbers to back that up? I find it hard to believe College Hockey Inc. that has been around for barely over a year has made that much of an impact especially on the Canadian kids.

Harvard had a few with the Biega brothers and a few others. I believe there are several Canadian kids who played prep school that went to Clarkson, St. Lawrence, etc. too. Also, Oullette is a Canadian who played prep. I would think that a Canadian family who sends their kid/pays money to have them attend a prep school would be more prone to having their son attend college than "turn pro" at 16-17 to play major junior.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

What I can't get over is why people are so obsessed with the Boston Advantage program.....???

Because it is not a great/established program for developing talent. I just don't see why Whitehead went away from what worked for Walsh and his first few teams. Mostly overage Canadian talent with some good hard working tough locals/Americans. I'm a Boston guy who likes Maine, but most everyone I knew growing up wanted to play for BC/BU. Therefore, for the most part any Massachusetts players you pick up are going to be the leftovers. Dimitrakos, Brendan Walsh, Flynn, Metcalf, Morrisson, O'Neill, Janik, etc have worked out in the last decade or so, but for the most part, the top players for Maine are from outside of New England.

Top seven scorers and the goaltender on the 99 championship team have one thing in common: not from New England... And all but one from outside of the USA. Three out of their top 13 on the 2000-2001 were from Mass, most not from USA. Could go on and on. Maine has had some good local and Boston kids, but for the most part they need the Canadians and foreigners who want to go Maine as priority number 1.

There just seems to be a lot of ire directed toward the Boston Advantage program (much of it from non-Maine fans).....which I find completely laughable considering that no Boston Advantage alumni have even stepped on to the Alfond ice yet........lol.

I thought Montgomery and all those who played for Walsh hated Tim? Why would send kids to Maine? No doubt its an underhanded bit of sabatoge

Sure there are plenty of Canadian kids playing prep. I was asking about the huge increase that the poster said happened because of College Hockey Inc. None of the ones you mention would have gone the college route because of College Hockey Inc their decision was made before it existed.

I'm not sure a Canadian kid going to prep school is more prone to attend college than play major junior either. Kevin Gagne and Darcy Ashley were both playing at a prep school when they committed to Maine and they both ended up in the Q.

Cue KIA saying it wasn't the overaged Canadians faults that Tim threw them off the team for discipline, but the fact remains that the people recruited by Guy Perron didn't last and weren't very good. .

Sill was one of the best, was he Guy's?
Sweetland? Purcell? or were they all Grant's? I do not know, but I got a feeling that since timmy plays favorites with HIS recruits and not those of the other coaches, whoever Guy brought in did not have a chance.
Sill is doing very well in the AHL.

and that poor kid from Debuque,... he said that Maine has a history of NHL goalies... (ALL under Grant)

Sill didn't impress me at all when he was playing for Maine, except that he had good wheels.Surprised to hear that he's made an AHL roster, let alone doing well there.

Guess ya never know.

Saw Coach Kerluke at Pat's after the game with a kid and their family :) A few of the players were also around. Specifically, I was happy when I saw Will O'Neill make a special point to approach and talk with the kid. I was hoping there were recruits in the building, the atmosphere was incredible!

A coach doesn't have to do much recruiting when a prospect witnessed the atmosphere for the BC and BU games.

True, I don't think it was much of a coincidence that the last few recruits committed soon after the NoDak and then the BC/BU games

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

I think that was his point :)
So if a "RECRUIT" comes during a BU/BC/UND game means he's the Cream of the Crop and the kid that comes to say a PC/UML game is a lesser talent..? I understand the selling point, just wondering in the last 2-3 years if on the most part these Recruits are in the top half of anyones list to recruit.

Sill was Bellamy with better hands. No point in being a smash mouth freight train if you are not allowed to hit, so no, I am sure he did not impress while he was at Maine.
He is doing very well on a very good team in the AHL.
Compare where his is and how he is doing to Moore and Leveille (and Bellamy and ummmm every forward except Teddy and Penner). And I got a good idea Levs and Moore DID impress you, right?
