Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

I'm inclined to agree with you about Shore, but less so about Anthoine... He, like Diamond, seems to struggle to create his own shot, and will depend on line-mates to get the puck in the low crease for him to whack at, IMO.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

This class looks pretty good, decent USHL players for a few. More talent than UMass, UVM, NU, MC. Need to get good goaltending and defense to move up more in standings. Shore and Anthoine have breakout years. Mark it down.
I think you could be very well be right on...one thing thou is that Shore needs to shoot more...not every time but say 3-4(if possible)more times per game and Anthoine is a much needed presence in front of the net,imo his problem was not being in top condition...he has to be the guy in front of the net to take the eyes of the netminder and to pick up those deflection goals and the so called garbage goals that still count if there from 7-8 feet compared to a 25 foot wrister or a 45 foot blast from the point....all in all everyone on the Team needs to pick it up,in attitude and conditioning...accountability/discipline this season.

After last year it shouldn't take much for Anthoine to have a breakout year

This is the ultimate "subjective" statement. IMHO, UVM and NU have stonger classes. Furthermore, their kids get to play for the coach who recruited them. Sometimes that makes a difference in how their skills are adapted to the new coach's system.

On Tyler Gjurich, I had been told that at least two HEA schools were interested until they discovered some "academic shortcomings". That is why he had to be a walkon. Perhaps Maine's admission office came to the same conclusion - or the boy himself got cold feet. It's a shame, as he was incredibly prolific.

"Incredibly prolific" in a defensively challenged league as a 21 year-old. I'm not saying he's not good, but let's not get carried away.

Besides conditioning, the whole team needs to develop a more aggressive attitude in the offensive zone. Drive the net hard, fight for position in front of the net, create their own spaces, and battle hard in the corners. Need to start winning the one-on-ones that happen constantly during games.

I agree with this assessment.

That's a fair statement. It seems that many of the Canadian lads who come to play NCAA D-1 take longer to adapt to the speed of the game than those who played in the USHL.

Has the brother of Gustav Nyquist...Oscar Nyquist ever been mentioned as a recruit @ Maine..? Oscar Nyquist is a defensemen and if I remember correctly he came over State side last year.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

The USHL exhibition season has started and the USPHL season is underway.

The Portland Junior Pirates have their USPHL Premier opener vs. South Shore Kings (Nolan Vesey) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the MHG Center in Saco.

Ryan Badger has moved from the Valley Junior Warriors who moved from the old EJHL to the Eastern Hockey League - formerly the old AJHL - to the Philadelphia Little Flyers of the USPHL.

I will update stats for the new season after this weekend's action.

I have a headache.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: All Are Welcome.......

Liam is a good player, played for Catholic Memorial, at Vernon Vipers (BCHL) this year. Vernon has a big CM pipeline recently, including Mike Collins (Merrimack) and Garrett Noonan (BU). Almost every school in HE is in on Coughlin. His older brother Kevin was a UML recruit before bolting for major junior and was out of hockey totally after a few years. Hopefully that taught the family how absurd major junior is unless you're a bona fide superstar.
