Did Maine ever try to get him in next year instead of 2014? Any idea why he didn't play in a better league? It would be interesting to know the whole story on this one...I hope things work out for him regardless of where he winds up.

He originally played for Chris Serino at Malden Catholic and went to Kimball Union. KUA has really been coming on strong. Two former goaltenders are starters in Hockey East (Ouellette at Maine and Mastalerz at UMass). They have a few kids committed for 2014 including Alex Carle who is heading to Merrimack. He is the brother of former Hobey winner Matt Carle. He would have been a big time contributor. Tough loss, but I think Corkum will get this ship heading in the right direction if he is named the new coach. I believe the only coach who they'd take over Corkum is Gwozdecky. Don't underestimate the difference between Corkum and Whitehead.

What has transpired since firing Whitehead:

1. Lost Montgomery to Denver........check.

2. Lost highly ranked recruit to arch rival UNH, BU, or Providence........check.

3. Formed a search committee to search for a new head coach...........check.

Just another day in the collegiate athletic wasteland known as Orono..............:(:(:(

1. Coach took DU job over ME job while claiming, "I bleed blue", his loss and good bye...... check.
2. Recruit changed his mind and might go to BU, UNH or PC, his loss...........check.
3. Formed a search committee to search for a new head coach, been working hard all weekend and week..........check.

Another week of a ton going on behind the scenes and ME is doing it right, not rushing............check

Folks this guy is an idiot and I can promise you Monty didn't take the DU job over Maine! There was alot more to it and I'll leave it at that. This moron claims to know everyone from Wayne Gretzky to the Pope. All he does is speculate under some ridiculous user name. Also his knowledge of the Union program, which I am very close to along with RPI is nil! You say you've forgotten more than I know so let me put it to you straight. I see more college and NHL games in a month than you do all year. This does not make me an expert nor do I claim to be but I know a helluva more than you ever will and since my name is on here, ask your good buddy Rick Bennett where to find me if you ever want to discuss your vast knowledge of hockey face to face! End of story.

Lastly Hokypuke. Please remove the tampon from between your fingers when you type. Your messages have become unreadable!

Hahahaha. Fool, until you name yourself, I believe nothing you have to say but if youre so close, I will see you at one of their games next year (not!). My tix are comped so if you can't afford one I can sit you down right next to me!!

See your problem is that I actually have a life and don't sit on a message board all day under some anonymous username pretending to be the know all. You can have the last word because I'm done wasting my time on you. Anyways, I have to go take my meds! And stop repping me asking me to "french kiss your a s s"!!! I don't want to be part of your family reunion.

Maine fans should not be totally discouraged by the Roberto loss. Yes, he is a very good player. Yes, it is indeed a big loss, but it is likely not for the reasons you may think. The Maine assistants actually did a great job with Roberto and identified him before others were really onto him and therefore got him on short money. Roberto was the USHR Forward of the Year and was only on a 50% scholorship. One year ago I would have said that 50% was about right---after the year he just had Id say he is at least a 75% scholorship guy. With the coaching change he saw an opportunity to not only stay closer to home, but more importantly get more money!

I figured it was something like that. Best of luck to him. College is a fortune nowadays and I don't blame him for wanting more money.

Cant imagine nayone has that much for this coming year and not sure if he is a 75-100% guy.

schools do indeed have that money and have offered him for next season---that said, he wants to play a year of juniors and has every intention on playing in Sioux City...
