Maine Offseason 2020: We Stay Home But Swayman Leaves

Good grief, what was that.
Bye Red Time to move on.
It wasnt a real season anyway so looking to the fall when hopefully this mess is behind us.

Best of luck to the seniors.

Make Reds last game one to remember

At least when Red gets waxed 7-2 it's not in the FF semis. So he's got that over Umile, anyway.

I guess Red's "attitude for gratitude" will probably extend to begging admin to keep his job next season ... but I just can't see that happening, right folks? It's not getting any better ...

Umile is Scotty Bowman compared to Red

I thought going in Maine would win. Small ice sheet compared to Whittemore and playing at home for the first time all year. I forgot about Maine not having discipline! They lost that game in every conceivable way!! After that "horror show" and his 8 year winning percentage how could he possibly come back?!?! Having said that, he probably gets a 3 year extension!

Ouch. Tough way to end it. That may be how the Gendron era at Maine comes to a close.

Fitting. But seriously sad to watch another year of talent degradation. After 32 years of season tickets, no changes mean no $$’s from me. The “waiting list” years are long gone Mr AD, so a better product, not marketing gimmicks is all we ask if you want a fan base who purchases season tixs.....

I think we are getting back to season ticks next year. Only because I hate those dam bench seats. Lol
they call like ten times a year asking if we want to get them again. At least their persistant.

Does that make Whitehead Toe Blake, Glen Sather or Al Arbour?

Certainly on par with Umile, when they both were concurrently coaching. (Probably better than Drunken Dick during that span, come to think of it.)

Go away until UNH wins a NC, if all you want to do here is to taunt. (And good GD luck with that this season..! Please.)

Consider putting the bottle down, and to consider what you're gloating about. Sure, Maine has sucked for years now, but a UNH troll hasn't a leg to stand-on in that regard, either, as though you have a thing to do with "your" program which has very clearly sh** the bed as well.

Ain't you a little too old for this?

With this level of hockey excellence, one can expect the same crowd size next year......

I suppose that I *might* walk across Stillwater Ave. to see this current team, if they offered valet parking, and the guy tipped me.

Still, I'd demand free admission, free box seats, and a free 'tater.

Having said all that, I'd probably leave during the 2nd. This program has been an 8-year Porta-Potty fire.

Just ‘making’ the hockey east tournament is quite an accomplishment for that lot. In any case congrats to them for winning what is likely the most meaningless playoff game Maine has ever played in.

Chill out. When this place(and Maine and UHN hockey) actually had a heart beat Chucks post wouldn't even have gotten a comment.

How about the stats Swayman is putting up!
its going to be fun to see how he progresses, rapidly it appears, and first lands in the net for the bruins.

I gave ours up 7 years ago after 35 years! No phone calls, no letters. As much as I enjoy college hockey and supporting the University's athletic department, I would find it difficult to support and watch this team with the current coach.

I think theres a real possibility hes in the NHL next year. I look at how Otteinger’s playing for Dallas, same freshman year same world jr team....the track fits

We should know something one way or another on Red soon, right? You can't just let the contract peter out in June with no announcement either way, and then start your hiring process.

One would think so. Being a "lame duck" coach along with Covid-19, recruiting must be challenging at this point. The sooner a decision is made one way or the other the better.

I would hope we would find out today, or tomorrow at the latest. Yesterday shouldn’t change the decision either way.

If I remember correctly Timmy didn’t get fired for two or three weeks after the season ended and I’m pretty sure Red wasn’t hired until Memorial Day weekend. That can’t happen again if Maine wants to have a successful transition.

I was reading the other day this off-season is going to be very chaotic with players getting an extra year of eligibility and potentially being able to transfer without having to sit out a year. There could be a lot of opportunity which Maine would do well to take advantage of.

Swayman is better than Oettinger though. With Rask's contract being up, it wouldn't surprise me that much to see Swayman be in the league next year, or perhaps even this year if one or both of Rask and Halak have an injury and are forced to miss time.

Actually, I was just commiserating with Wally. I liked his "Red makes Umile look like Scotty Bowman" quip (I'm a huge DRW and Bowman fan) and just made some like-kind comparisons. Both programs have taken their separate slow treks downhill since the 1999 FF Finals epic. Whitehead was actually a pretty good custodian of Walshy's program for quite a few years, and having Standbrook around didn't hurt. But at the end of the day, coaches like Walshy come along once in a lifetime (if that) for most programs. UNH is still waiting for someone of his caliber; the new guy certainly isn't showing any signs he's gonna be that guy anytime soon. I thought my Post #722 kind of gave your program the long-term nod, didn't it? Chill.

Maybe someday Monty comes back to Orono? Can't imagine he's gonna be on any NHL "short lists" anytime soon, after what happened in Dallas. Being an NHL assistant pays the bills, and maybe the lower pressure of not being in charge lets him finish getting his life in order, but you gotta think a guy like him is eventually gonna want to be back in charge somewhere at some point. Why not Orono? Why not now (or someday soon)? If you guys can put up with a couple of more seasons with Red, it might worthwhile if it cleared the way for Monty's return? Monty may need a few quiet but successful years in St. Loo to show folks in the hockey world he's ready to take charge of a D-1 program again.

If not him ... who else is likely to be in line to replace Red??
