Maine Offseason 2020: We Stay Home But Swayman Leaves

Amkirby,. I think your analysis is about right.

The school made a mistake hiring Red, and extending his contract even more so. That is if the school wanted to get hockey rebuilt. Its been lost years with Red in trying to get back to post season contention. So we have even further to go since whitehead.

Maine Hockey is the new Maine Baseball.

I don't know. Maine hockey can be fixed with investment and energy.

All the money and effort in the world can't change the weather in Orono in February, March, and April. (Is climate change a long term conspiracy to bring Black Bear baseball back into national relevancy? You decide!)

If you think back to that time Maine had a leadership void at the system, school, and athletic department level. Of the names floated Red probably was the best one and I think he has stabilized the program. For all the doom and gloom Maine’s average finish during his tenure is what sixth or so? I know that isn’t what we want but when you factor in the lack of resources it obviously could be worse.

I also more or less agree with AKirby’s analysis. The bizarre thing with Timmy’s later years was he found three great forwards in one year and then had a lot of years where he couldn’t find one. Maine really struggled in net and on the blueline(outside of Hutton and O’Neil.)

If Maine gets a new coach in who can find a few elite forwards we’ll be in contention relatively quickly. Let’s hope it happens.

Brady Keeper? Swayman certainly will as well.

Keeper has one NHL appearance, and didn't show-up in the box. Sway is way good, but there are very limited goalie jobs in the NHL. Nothing certain about that.

Drew, please, of course I want Maine to succeed. But I don't see it happening under Red, and no one else should, either, considering the abject disaster his reign has amounted-to during the longest 8 years in the history of the program.

"Stabilized" the program into a perennial also-ran. JHC.

His average finish is in fact 8th. Hes 25 games under .500 in league play and has never played a game at td garden. Ever.

He’s an objecticely, inarguably, lousy coach. It really could not be worse

Maine has averaged a fifth place finish in the last three years. Since he has had his own players there has been a clear upswing.

They also had a certain Alaskan goaltender that wore sweater #1, I think he had a big part to do with it. I think, as usual, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Fishman is probably too pessimistic in his outlook, but Drew is over-optimistic in his.

And yet he still hasnt won a single Hockey East quarterfinal game.

hows his own players look this year?

he had a once in a generation goalie prop up 3 years of crap. All their underlying numbers (shots for and against, PDO etc) were ugly.

If the University follows you and thinks a couple 5th place finishes were signs of anything other than a goaltending miracle they are bozos and we are doomed to be back in 11th pronto

Here we go again. Maine takes the puck right in front of its own net and then gives it up for a goal. Next, they take a penalty. And another.

I think he has a couple of decent goalies, maybe he can ride them to another 5th place finish

UConn suck or what? Losing 5-2 against this Maine team??

I haven't watched Maine play much but Breen looks like he has some wheels and can actually carry the puck into the zone.

I mean, hard to be mad at a win, especially when you score 6 goals. But that might be one of the ugliest possible wins.

Pray they’re as good as Swayman. If they throw up a really good .920 instead of his .940 they’re doomed.

42nd in the country in scoring margin.

Last in the confefence in shots on goal against. Last in the conference in shot margin. 9th in shots for. Most penalties taken.

these are the facts. His brand of hockey stinks and will not be successful. Theres zero evidence to the contrary.
