Another game 7 multi-goal lead blown.....atrocious special teams when they need it.

The Tampa Bay Lightning is my adopted favorite team in the NHL. They have former Maine players Brett Clark, Teddy Purcell and Mike Lundin. I watched them defeat the Penguins last night and they now move on to face the Capitals on Friday.

Mike and Brett have both played very well.Teddy kinda disappeared later in the series,but he had his moments earlier on.

Nice to have some Bears still playing.Jimmy should be well-rested and ready tomorrow night...

Trade..? I am just hoping after next season to see that he's..(TW)... gone,either Fired or Resigns. He won't do the later and from out at the Frozen 4 in MN. he has a iron-clad deal in place,Thanks to his buddy Blake James. So I guess we all can dream. What a B.S. situation that Maine Hockey is in with this new 3 yr deal.....I hope there's a plan come next April. FWIW. And to answer your question I don't care for both coaches. DUMP Whitehead.

How could you not want Claude, I don't understand why other Bruins Fans don't like this guy. Every year he has coached the Bruins they have been in the playoffs. Does anyone remember them before Claude? Defensive minded hockey wins, such as the NJ Devils used too. The Bruins don't have stars like the Red Wings to play that type of game, that is not Claude's fault. I for one hope they keep Claude for a long time.

I'm on the DET bandwagon. Really pulling for Jimmy to put together another good series to quiet the doubters. I know there's history with Tampa Bay, with Tortorella (and Dave Capuano had a cup of coffee there), but I don't *really* feel a connection to the current players. It's cool that Brett Clark spent a season in Orono, but I kind of see him as the answer to a trivia question. Purcell too, now that Whitehead has stopped referring to him after every loss. Lundin is a different story. That guy made a big contribution to Maine hockey. I'm definitely rooting for him. Just rooting for Howard a bit more.

How could you not want Claude, I don't understand why other Bruins Fans don't like this guy. Every year he has coached the Bruins they have been in the playoffs. I don't know about that. I'd say even the die-hard, knowledgeable fans are split at best. I know a lot of "real Bruins fans" who don't want him back if they don't get past the second round this year, and I think they have good reason to feel that way.

Not who I'm talking about. I'm talking about people like my dad, uncles and others who have been following the B's since the 70s and some of my friends who watch most, if not all, of their games. Also, members of the media who are there every game. There's a very strong feeling among a lot of people that this is a make-or-break postseason for Julien, and I don't think beating the Habs alone will quiet that group.

My feeling RE: Julien is he's a good coach, maybe not a great coach, and its a performance business. Must win. A lot of good teams need a new voice to give them the kick in the pants they need to perform. Happened to both Chicago and Philly. That's the reality in the NHL.

The Bruins play passive too often in big games for it to be a coincidence. The group had been 0-3 in Game 7s and has had a terrible roller coaster of streaks in the playoffs. Claude's first year, down 3-0, tie it up, lose. Second year, Sweep, go down 3-1, rally to tie, lose. Last year, up 3-0, lose. Need more consistency and it's easier to get a new coach than a new captain.

His record with the personal and injuries he has had speaks volumes for him as a coach.
Without crazy injuries last year, the worst they would have done is lost in s cup finals. Another 100+ points this season.

There is a reason why Chiarelli didnt fire him after last season and its not because he has pictures on him

Tampa Bay wins the first game against the Capitals 4 - 2 with an empty net goal at the end by the Lightning. Teddy Purcell received an assist and one penalty. Brett Clark was in the penalty box twice but played very well. The second penalty I thought was a marginal call, which the Capitals player " sold very well". Great defense by the Lightning.

They frustrated the Cap's with the 1-3-1...uhhhh trap...whatever works you use...with that said would TW at Maine use a system like that if he knew that would be how with the group of players he had could be in every game and win...NOPE...he has no plans during the game...he hammers away even IF it does not work. One plan and no in game changing to plan B-C or D.

A little off topic but today I was watching the US team play Austria in the IIHF World Championships and was excited to see former Black Bear Matthias Trattnig playing for Austria. I didn't watch much of the game so I didn't really get to see how well he was playing but he did take a hooking penalty though.

Right now they have listed at forward:Cerretani,Boisvert,Higgins,Leen...and I don't figure much from them with maybe the exception of Boisvert and listed at the d-man position:Rutt and Norman with Norman on the real small side and only Rutt with some size...so imo the incoming recruits could be a lean group as a whole...but until there on the ice it's a big questionmark. What this team needs is a big improvement in goal and there special teams need alot of work also. They'll need step up season's from the Sophmore class of Amstoy/Anthoine/Swaverly/O'Conner.

I was especially drawn to the last 2 paragraphs and the quote by Spencer Abbott. I sure hope he's right. I was already looking forward to next season and these 2 articles only add to the anticipation. Hopefully, the schedule will be published soon and I can begin planning my winter.

I'm also patiently(?) waiting for the official schedule release to plan one or more Maine Hockey weekends. I don't know if we'll be able to get to North Dakota (I really want to experience Englestad Arena with the Black Bears there), but a trip or two to Orono is quite likely this season. Nebraska-Omaha is a set that I'd really like to see, but a weekend in early January (as reported in a previous post) might be difficult with unpredictable travel conditions between Toronto and Maine at that time of year. Seeing the arena improvements will also be interesting, as it's been about 5 years since I've seen the Black Bears at home.
