Maine/NCAA

Re: Maine/NCAA

Whoever said she misunderstood. Lewis is not the first and won't be the last coach to have been in the arena while captains is on. Their offices are in the same building. Coach Lewis is a great coach that got caught involved in a minor infraction. I think the result is way over the top. Now we will punish the players with more time off. The team has already scrambled to pull practices together , scale back efforts to recruit, lost a head coach.

It really is too bad..I know this type of thing went on at my daughter's school for 4 years.

Re: Maine/NCAA

Thanks Runsub. You were right all the way through. Any idea how the players are responding? Must be tough. That said, there's also a chance to pull together and rally. Do the girls believe that the administration has their best interests at heart? Seems to me that would make a difference.

From reports I have heard the team is doing well under the circumstances. As you say, an opportunity for the team to pull together and could lead to a comparatively successful season. There are times when adversity can have a positive affect.

Re: Maine/NCAA

I'm sure she will land on her feet and continue her journey in the hockey world somewhere. Good luck Maria!

Agree, would be sad if the sport loses her services as a result of what appear to be relatively minor infractions. I can't help but think that someone must have been complaining for this to become a big issue. I would not be shocked if similar stuff happens at many other schools, but goes unreported.

Seems to me the penalty (forced resignation) does not fit the crime, assuming what's being reported is all there is to it. Many coaches in other sports have done far worse but managed to hang on to their jobs.

This may turn out to be a blessing, she made Maine a tough opponent in Hockey East with limited resources/facilities. There are several programs that could benefit from her experience, ability to teach the game and her competitiveness. I would not be surprised to see her trade up. Best of luck!
For Maine's sake I hope some of the players don't go where she does. I know some would love to still play for her. Maine will have to assure the players they will stay in good hands.

Quite often in these situations when coaches are given the opportunity to resign, you don't hear the whole story.

You resign, and we'll do our best to protect certain details of what went on.

Obviously none of us really know what transpired, but I think it would be fair to assume that there is quite likely more to the story than what any of us are reading in the BDN...because as has been mentioned, it's not the kind of violation that A) takes 5 or 6 weeks to investigate or B) leads to dismissal/resignation from one's job.

I agree with this assessment. I believe there are more than minor infractions involved with her resignation/dismissal. I think the administration is trying to protect her future in hockey.

Re: Maine/NCAA

Or perhaps theirs.
There's more to this then we will hear, but in time it will leak out...imo they wanted her(Lewis)out and have there eye on either of the two Assistants right now...WHY I don't know but hopefully Lewis gets another chance...she did Maine a favor but not taking the Vermont Job and also losing out in money as she would have received between 100k to 102k @ Vermont compared to her Contract @ Maine for 45k...she wanted this Job to make it her Program...too bad as there are losers all around...Team/Players and UMaine Athletics.
