Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Gendron is smart enough to realize that he does not have the talent BC has. So he resorts to intimidation as a way of minimizing their advantage. Much the same way Denehy did 4-5 years ago in quarterfinal action at Alfond Arena. The strategy didn't work for either Denehy or Gendron.
The thought of Maine going into Conte and intimidating a bigger, faster more talented BC team is not rational. I don't think that was Red's strategy this past weekend.

You are correct. The word intimidation doesn't fit. They were trying to frustrate BC a little maybe to goad them into taking some bad penalties is all they were up to. Don't think anyone "intimidates" anyone else in college hockey where fighting is not allowed.

Having said that I gotta say I didn't see a sniper on either team out on the ice this weekend. Bc is large but.... Meh. And we all know Maine can't score. Interesting to see BC has gotten totally away from the smurf approach which used to be their bread and butter. Are there no more midgets out there with any skills?

As far as Denneheys approach goes, actually it did work. He was able to stay real close to a much more talented Maine team then had he not employed the strategy. Of course it was a Timmay coached Maine team that year so Dennehys job was made much easier.

$7.2 million shortfall for next years budget at Orono. $52 million gap system wide by 2020. Like I said it's gonna get worse.......

I seriously think there is a better chance that UMaine no longer sponsors division one athletics by 2020 than there is a chance that Maine wins a national title by 2020.

No doubt as there us no ****ing way maine wins a NC by 2020

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

So we need someone to start putting pucks in the net, right? Isn't Rai supposed to be an offensive player? Not gonna do much buried on the third or fourth lines.

How bout you have

Rai Swavely Gibson
Vesey Brown Byron
Merchant Robbins Morgan
Perez Lacroix Hayes Tegeler, Campbell whoever's left

If he's gonna be an offensive player, he needs to play up on the top lines with what we have of offensive players. I'd put him with Swavely and Gibson, cause I can't see having him and Brown both on the same line, while Vesey would add some size to the Brown line. or just leave Vesey where he is, and swap Swavely and Brown, have a line of Rai, Swavely and Byron.

Gendron has been telling every group he addresses that Maine will be competing for a national championship by 2018.

maines facilities far superior to MC
You think it's bad now, should have seen it in 83/84, you could have a section to yourself
Give it time. Chance of them not having D 1 sports is zero, zero

They won't even get to the ncaas with the play I've seen the last 2 years. I under stand why red is saying that though.

Have you seen rai?. My forearm is bigger than his legs. I can't see how he makes time and space.

I watched him warm up Sunday and he can really shoot the puck, but you're correct that he is too small right now. He missed most of last season too. I think Red is taking it slow with him. I would look to see him get some looks on the power play.

Hoky, i thought you were touting gendron's recruiting. So where is the talent on this team? Or did you mean recruits currently in the pipeline?

Did you actually watch either of the games last weekend? I'd be curious which freshmen you thought looked bad.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Don't get your black and blue panties in a bunch drew. Maine worked hard. I didn't say anyone looked "bad". But not looking bad and working hard does not equal having talent. At least not the talent level that will get you guys back to where you want to be.

I was at both games last weekend at BC. Rai played Sunday only. I made it a point to watch him carefully. It's impossible to draw a conclusion based on one game. Rai is not big and not fast. I've been reading about this kid for two years now. I don't get it.

It could be the way he sees everything around him that interested the coaches and hasn't had enough ice time at this level to adjust. Give him some time and we see what develops
