Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

I've got no problem with last night's effort. But how does this team play games like it has for the last three, but end up losing to UMass and Princeton? They seem to play up to, or down to, their level of competition each week.

Now, if they continue to bring this same effort when they play Vermont, and Princeton again, and NU and UNH, you're right, we should win some games. But so far, we haven't seen it, and until we do, people are gonna be negative.

That said, though, upperclassmen need to step up. Or the freshmen just have to say phuckit, and take the team away from them. If i'm someone like Musil, or Tegeler or Hayes, and I'm sitting in the stands game after game, I get a chance to play I'm gonna give my dammdest to do something with it.

My guess would be eight hours on a bus and only a couple hundred fans in the stands would be a big part of why they played so poor in NJ. I didn't see the UMA game but it seemed like they had a bad five minute spell in the second period then obviously some awful luck in ot. I did watch the Princeton game and it seemed like they didn't have a ton of energy. Princeton is obviously not great but they do have a decent goalie so maybe that was just a bad matchup. I think Maine will sweep them in a couple weeks. This probably sounds crazy but the freshmen are actually much better than I expected and I think the quality of play has been very positive even if it isn't necessarily reflected in the standings.

So is Alfond Arena now officially known as "the Old Girl"??? Ugh. That'll get the bluechippers lined up to play there!

The old grey mare ain't what she used to be..........:(

I won't be there so I predict first win

Same here but for entirely different reasons

At least it's on free streaming with pretty , broadcastingly speaking, impartial play by play and color. Uml's guys weren't bad at all, in fact pretty good. But the BC guys were horrible, totally classless.

The good news is, drew thinks maine has played really well so far.

:rolleyes:Wow an easy shorty turns into a UML goal. 3-0. Yeah this team will win 12 games easy.

That was as bad of a play as you will ever see, can't quite believe that happened.

Where is Schurhamer? Surely he is a much better option than Riley or Hamilton.

Maine online announcers said he has an "undisclosed" injury...

Drew my friend. It's time you move on to the next stage of grief. The denial stage has to end. ;)

If you're going to have a good goal waived off, you want it to be in a 5-0 game. No idea how they blew that.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Apparently jaffe and caron don't have audio on replays. You could hear the whistle. Not sure why it was blown though. The gravallese special.

Ha, I still think they will come good in the next month. The 'defense' was flashbacks to last season.

Please move on to the anger phase. As much as it pains me this team won't win 5 games this year. The whole program is shot. My family was very involved with Maine Hockey from 88 thru the mid 2000's. A certain member of my family who was a well known business owner in Bangor used to give tens of thousands to the program as well as sponsor players for the holidays etc. I can remember being an undergrad at Maine in the early 90's and always had a player there for Thanksgiving and or Christmas. This family member along with a few others paid Shawn's salary when he got suspended. When Shawn passed I knew it was the beginning of the end. And it has come to pass. Maine Hockey is done. It will never reach the prominence and greatness it had. The U has no money. The big money contributors don't donate anymore. The facilities are junk. It's over.

Things will never be the way they once were, no debate at all about that. Shawn was as good of a coach and program leader as there has ever been in college hockey. You are right there are challenges beyond just the hockey program too. I still think Maine is a couple years away from being top five in hockey east, making NCAA's two out of every three years, and making the frozen four every three or four years. This freshmen class as a whole is as good as we have seen in a long time and next year's looks much better.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Can someone please tell Gendron to drop the "Old Girl" B.S.? it just reminds everyone how old and crappy the facillity is and how much the atmosphere and everything else has gone down the tubes.

Love your optimism Drew. But it's over. The program is beyond recovery. They may get to a lower to mid pack status in HE in the next couple years. But competing for a NCAA bid or HE title. Nope.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
