Maine Hockey 2014-2015

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-2015

Black Bears tie #7 Mercyhurst. 2-2-1 on the season. A pleasant change from last year's start. This team should be fun to watch.

Indeed! Tough competition the last two series, and they fared reasonably well. It doesn't get any easier the next two series.

Quite a stretch for UMaine Women's Hockey in the #1 spot in Hockey East! ;)

Any coverage on video or radio streaming for the Maine vs BU games, not able to get to the games.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-2015

Maine scores 4 unanswered goals and gives BU it's first loss of the young season. I know, the season is still young, but after last year's debacle it's nice to see the Black Bears having some success.

Saturday, October 4: Minnesota 5, Boston U 2.

Congratulations on a big win. But Maine is NOT the first to vanquish BU this season.

Further note, Poulin was present for the October 4 game.

Maine seizes the Championship Belt.

Nice Win Ladies!!!

You bet it was. I was impressed with the play both games vs BU. Friday's score didn't reflect the effort on Maine's part, but Saturday's definitely did. Much improvement compared to last year, and even compared to last week at QU. Let's hope this trend continues. Good to see some Maine-iaks in the student section really getting in to the game.

You have to be impressed with the start of this program. Are results coming from coaching, players buying into a system and general Team Play or what is the difference? Congratulations on a great start!

Let's not make this into more than it is...

Yes it was a fantastic win over BU, even if Poulin didn't play. But they were also shut out in 5 of the 6 previous games and to this point in the season have been shut out in more than half of their games.

They are giving up a lot (too many) shots, but they are also getting phenomenal goaltending right now. However, they are not scoring goals, and that is something they need to figure out because if the goaltending takes a step or two back, they are going to have a tough time getting points when they are producing 0, 1, even 2 goals per game.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-2015

Can we make more of it now that the Black Bears knocked off Northeastern 1-0 on the road?

It's a great win, but remember that NU are without Coyne and Savage because of the Four Nations. Nevertheless, good victory.

Agree that UMaine still has deficiencies in the scoring department. And effort is inconsistent. Maine played poorly in Friday's game vs UConn was--it seemed like they made more direct passes to the Huskies than to their own team mates. They need some serious improvement in that area.

If we're talking about who's missing from NU, I'd also note that Maine was without the services of Jen More both for the late 3rd period rally vs BU last weekend (she got concussed earlier in the 3rd), and both of this weekend's games vs UConn & NU. So NU was missing a couple studs, and UMaine was missing a leading scorer and team leader / capitan.

Not making too much of their record now, but both the record and the level of play (mostly) is a vast improvement over last year's start.

Hurry, Coach Ricky! Sign some Olympians while we're still #1 in Hockey East standings!

Congratulation ladies for your sweep of Vermont. Doing very well in Hockey East play.

Congratulations Black Bears for securing the first ever Hockey East quarterfinal games on home ice. Well done.
