Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

My optimism is long-dead, considering Red's results and his recruiting...

I was touting Jimmy or Bob a couple of years back, but was willing to settle for Red and his impressive resume. Now, I see no progress whatsoever and in hindsight wish that Maine had opted for a younger coach who had Maine ties and perhaps had a better touch with 18-22 YO's.

I hate to admit this, but I've thrown-in the towel. What Tim started, Red will finish. I'll still follow the Bears, but I'll be stunned (and delighted) if they make any noise in the foreseeable future, yet I just don't see any reason to expect that. None at all.

Agree with this. Next year is critical for Red and he knows it. The team needs to show a marked improvement with enough of his guys in place. I'll be watching every game and rooting for them, but I just don't see anything much happening based on his recruits. Unless this big freshman goalie is the next Bishop, Gillies, or Howard, I'm afraid it's MOTS.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

They were great games all over. Not sure how I feel about NCAA kind of giftwrapping PC those home games but they still had to win 'em.

How did you feel about UND playing on their home ice? What if they had been the 2, 3, or 4 seed?

Seems like people are OK with Western teams hosting Regionals on their home ice but there seems to be a disconnect when an Eastern team gets placed in their hometown (wasn't even their "home ice").

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Ditto. It's all about rebound control. Even the goal that ended our season followed a shot from a bad angle that was in and out of the goalies glove........ So many goals scored on rebounds, part of the blame on the D for not picking the guy up, but mostly on the keeper for not smothering the rebound.

It's never the goaltender's fault!......well, at least not at Maine.:o

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Maine needs to have at least a .500 season then a few winning seasons before they even think about Frozen 4's.

I don't subscribe to this whole "Maine needs another decade before we can even think of the Frozen 4"........blah blah blah.

You need the right coach and talented players......period. The goaltender is the most important piece of the player puzzle.....and Maine isn't even in the Top 40 in that regard.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Yeah agree about the goalie, but it's coaching too. Systems, utilizing what you have for talent. Prov wasn't in any better position talent wise than Maine when Leaman took over. And lookie here they are in the Frz 4. I'm really having my doubts about Red. I think he maybe too old school for the current environment. I'll give him 1 more year. Then my optimism and patients will have run it's course.

My patients are wearing thin too.......and so is my patience.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Used to happen all the time, but even more so.... As in Michigan hosting at Yost and Minny hosting at Mariucci, etc. The situation is actually better now.

You wouldn't know it though the way everyone was complaining and wringing their hands over Providence! Most of it seemed to be coming from Western fans.....bunch of hypocrites!

Time to follow basketball.......love watching games at the CIC. Coach Walsh (irony!) has that program on the upswing.:)

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

North Dakota wasn't 15th in the PWR, they earned their advantage

B.S.! No team should have a home ice advantage unless the NCAA is going to higher seeds home ice for EVERYONE! Providence wasn't even playing on their home ice. And you do realize that North Dakota was playing in Grand Forks no matter what seed they were, right?

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Yes, but North Dakota EARNED that by being a #1 seed and a host. Providence was not a host and backed into the tournament as the last team in on the last day by .0002 points. They were then handed 2 virtual home games for "attendance".

They didn't earn anything! UND was the host of this regional whether they were 1, 2, 3, or 4.......or even didn't make the tourney. Please tell me that you understand that......please.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

No ones complaining about NoDak because they hosted the regional. Established rule for over a decade, cost of doing business. PC wasn't the the host of theirs, Brown was. So the NCAA didnt have to reward the 15, they could've rewarded Yale. Especially after years of slaving to bracket integrity, its a curious decison at best and outright wrong at worst.

So, you are totally fine if North Dakota would have been the last team in and played on their home ice?

I am NOT OK with Western teams hosting Regionals on their home ice and Eastern teams having to play at neutral sites. They need to do one or the other for ALL.

Fargo, not grand forks

Fargo, not grand forks

Whoops.......they all seem the same.:o

So a better example would be Michigan hosting at Yost in the past?

Either way.......I'm losing respect for NCAA ice hockey and the way that the tournament is administered. Just go to highest seeds hosting and all it a day.

They talked(ESPN)to PC Coach Nate Leaman about playing at the Dunkin Donuts Center...he said the ONLY time he was in there was to watch Providence Basketball and the hockey team had not even been there this year...according to ESPN. The advantage was they were close to there home's and they had there fans close by...happens each and every year and will continue.

Yeah......people act like this has never happened before. I guess that next time Providence should put the bid in and that'll shut everyone up. :)

You had respect for the NCAA? Wow, you must be the only one. They don't call it the NC$$ for nothing. They don't give a **** about the student athlete and whats fair for them. They only care about money so they can get a raise and continue the charade.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

There's really no sense arguing this but to spell it out, the NCAA has no choice in terms of putting a host team in its home regional if it qualifies. It's happened with UNH once or twice as a 3/4 seed. People accept that as part of the tournament process.

In the case of PC, the committee DID have a choice, and it chose to reward the No. 15 team in the field, both in terms of putting them at home and in terms of letting them play the No. 4 overall team (Miami) instead of No. 2 (North Dakota).

Giving PC, a team that as noted qualified by thousandths of percentage points of RPI, those advantages is absolutely questionable and has nothing to do with the established process of slotting host teams in their home regionals.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Why do they even need home teams for Regionals? Why not have the facilities bid to host them and just do away with the whole charade? Or, better yet, have the four highest seeds host in their own barns.
