Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

I am not a big fan of Red. I don't like his attitude and the way in which he conducts himself after games. He had to be told to get in line after games to shake hands with players. He didn't do it for most of last year. Tonight he shakes hands and never says a word to most of the players except for I think Santaguida. This is college not professional sports. There may be more important reasons why he has never had a head coaching position in over 20 years of being in hockey. Having said that, I still think the team will get better and be competitive, but I think it will be a few years before he wins any championships. He seems to have one mind set for coaching and makes no adjustment as to who the opponent is. It will be interesting to see how all of his recruits come together and will they be effective in all aspects of the game( special teams etc.).

I could not disagree more. Red's first full recruiting class comes this fall and it is going to take some time. I think realistically Maine will be in the 6-10 range the next two or three years and hopefully higher after. I like what he has done a lot recruiting but they are not kids who are going to come in and put up 40 or 50 points in a season straightaway.

6-10 for the next 3 years????.......wow, it's the second coming of TIMMAY TIME!

Not to butt in on your thread but I thought in the beginning of the year UVM dominated the games we played against Maine. This series in all honesty I think Maine actually controlled the play. Either Maine got better under Red or we slipped backwards. Probably a little of both. Based on what I saw Maine is headed in the right direction.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

Tough to know what next year brings when we don't know who is or isn't going to be on team. Team played a typical game last night. Looked good, looked bad, came back, ran out of gas. It was evident that team D hurt us once again. I thought Romeo was ok and was a good choice for the 3rd game. Hopefully, Romeo and Morris know what it takes and works hard this summer. I could see a small jump in the standings next year but this team ain't winning diddly squat for awhile. We'll finally see what a full year of recruiting can do.

I still can't believe that Maine blew the chance to get Jimmy. Maybe things wouldn't have been any different with current roster, but I have to think he would have brought more enthusiasm. At this point I'm not sold on Red but I'm hoping that with his recruits starting to come in we'll see some improvement.

I am not sure what I think of Red.
Remember Tim recruited a certain type of person, for the most part. I think Red is going after a completely different type. and Red had to use Tim's types and try to mold them into his style.
If a player is not used to being motivated by being yelled at, he is is not going to respond to Red's yelling.
maybe he is bringing in the right type to go along with his style of coaching.

I very much like the fact that a player can cross check an opponent in the Maine crease, draw a penalty and NOT get benched for it.
I also like that some of the D are allowed to stand guys up at the blue line, something that we NEVER saw under Tim.

I think that Lacroix turned it on toward the end and that he will be a force... not necessarily a team leading goal scorer, but someone Maine really wants on the team and opponents really do not want to play against... physical like pelly, but not a complete pelly.

so does Devin sign today? or do these things take 2 days? and who is shown the door to make room for all the recruits?

Haven't been on this Forum for the whole season, but just wondering what the deal is with Nik Nugnes; not dressed for any games this year. Is he hurt, academic issues,???? He is still listed on the roster. Now another recruit is coming in. Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks

I asked that question earlier. According to Walrus, he has turned into a practice goal tender and has not developed. I think he may have been injured early in the season but not now. Similar to Musil and Tegeler in not developing.

I have the same impression of Red. He seems like a real "old-school" kinda guy--sort of a throwback to the way things were done years ago. Admittedly, I'm not all that familiar with him, so maybe I'm mistaken. But I can't see his overall demeanor being a plus for a young recruit who's deciding where to play.

BTW, good playing. You guys gave us all we could handle and then some.

Lacroix and Vesey, both Red recruits, liking what I see from both. Vesey had a rush down the ice where he used his size and strength to keep a vermont defender off the puck the whole way down and got to the net front. Didn't score but it was great play. Lacroix is turning into the player he was advertised as, pesky, pot stirrer, in your face, not afraid to get in the crease, good defender, like his play a lot also.

All you have to do is talk with Red, ask a question he might not like and you'll find out what kind of guy he is, he'll get right in your face and answer. I think he expects you to know. I've heard Belicheck has those meetings where he asks D guys about tendencies and you best know or he makes you feel like an idiot. Thats my impression of Red, you best know or......

I personally don't think shore is ready. He's too slow. I will be surprised if he makes it to be a nhl regular. I'm thinking Tanner House

He will join Matt Mangene on the Texas Stars.

That might be true but another year at Orono isn't going to help him either, might as well get paid.

Re: Maine Hockey 2014-15 Volume 2: Red's Revenge

I'm not sure I'm sold on Red either. I just wonder whether he's a bit too old, and old school to relate to these young kids today the way they seem to want to be related to. No sentimental touchy feely crap coming from Red. It was said that TIMMAY's guys would go through walls for Corkum, and I'm kinda wondering how it might have been with him as the coach.

That said, I'm hoping that this weekend was the turning point. Still some major defensive weaknesses, and bad turnovers, but the guys showed up to play. Except for a dismal second period yesterday, where they looked tired and maybe like they were ready to pack it in, but whatever was said in the locker room, they came back ready to play the third. Like they were finally getting it, finally understanding what they need to do to be successful. I hope that's the case.
