I also agree that golfers throwing down would be awesome. The onlytime Tiger took a 7 iron to the head was when his "wife" "found out" about his infidelity. Like she married him because she thought he was a wonderful person.

Pretty sure she was swinging a 1-iron on that fateful night... Like most amateurs, she tends to over-club .

Nonesuch at least is open tomorrow at noon.

Nothing open around Orono, still snow in the fairways, although this past week has gotten rid of most of the snow. Go north of bangor though and they are still measuring in feet of snow

Congrats also to Devin Shore and Ben Hutton, who were named 2nd team East All-Americans. The link is here. Also here.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

I'm pretty sure Red recruited him to take penalties

I thought Maine lacked a bit of toughness last year which hopefully this kid will bring. Also, if you look at his stats most of his points are from 5X5 play.

After the losses of BC and UML I'm feeling pretty good about next year. You would have to think Providence is the favorite but I think Maine has a decent shot at finishing top three.

Bold prediction considering we don't know who the goaltender will be yet.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

"Physical" is waaaay over-rated in the modern game... I don't want to see him in a Maine uni if he's going to take selfish penalties.

I completely disagree... Physical was the biggest difference between Maine and PC this season. men against boys in those games.
MInnisota and Union were also both very physical, and able to pretty much shut down BC with their physicality.

and "selfish" penalties is really a silly silly description... what is "selfish"?

stupid, I can see, but selfish... like a player GETS Something from spearing an opponent away from the play???
selfish is not passing the puck to an open team mate, or not helping out on D...right?

It must be tough to recruit at Union.

Selfish is taking a penalty when you either know you don't have to, or know it's stupid to do. Knowing that doing so is gonna hurt the team, but you go ahead and do it anyway. Like when you spear someone as you're going off the ice for intermission.

Or if you need more clarification, just look at most of Joey Diamond's.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red White Bleeding Blue...

Completely agree on Maine's need to get a bit bigger and more physical. There's a place for it.

If Diamond proved anything it's that these things are separate. You don't need to be big to take lots of penalties. Hopefully the new guy will be able to play smart as well as tough.

I guess we will never agree on the Joey Diamond thing, there plenty of people who know the game very well who say that Joey's toughness and willingness to be there for his teammates is a good thing, and there are others who cannot see anything good in how he played the game.

Joey scored goals, Rutt took much worse penalties, in my opinion, way away from the play and he did not do anything in the offensive end.

Joey not only ran goalies (something that has its place in hockey, according to some-you do not have to agree), but he also got opponents to throw him into their goalies and get called for roughing...was who were the North Dakota players who BOTH took penalties at the Alfond on consecutive nights for throwing Joey into Eidnsness? Blood and Hextall? I will take a kid who gets opponents to throw him in to their own goalies any day. He developed a bad reputation and his major for running Hellybuck was BS... he was pushed, and even had he gone full speed, that would have been a minor had it been any other goalie and any other forward. The kick, I did not see, so I cannot comment, and I have still not spoken to a single person who I know who saw the kick/stomp

Just getting back from Philadephia F4...is Lacroix coming in this Fall(2014-15 season)..?

I was wondering the same thing.

Good news out of Orono today, the days of Ted Woodward are finally over. Umaine basketball was a lot of fun 15 years ago or so when Bedard was there and hopefully they bring in a coach who can get Maine back at that level and hopefully into the tourney once in awhile.
