Definitely was a nasty head shot and probably warranted more than a 2 minute penalty.
Just watched the play on the on demand version of the Maine video site (http://mobile.stretchinternet.com/listEvents.htm?broadcastType=0&clientID=136&eventType=). If anyone who paid for the video wants to watch the hit lomberg's suspended for it is around the 105 minute mark of the video). Definitely was a nasty head shot and probably warranted more than a 2 minute penalty.
Yeah, there's no doubt it should have been more than a two minute penalty. What is really unfortunate is that it wasn't called that way on the ice on Saturday, and now instead of sitting for 5, or potentially getting tossed, Lomberg and the whole team have to pay for a game that has nothing to do with last Saturday (or Merrimack) and is a huge game for pairwise points and for Hockey East home ice all because Merrimack was whining about it after the game was over. Merrimack was all over Lomberg all night. They wouldn't leave him alone. The refs could have put a stop to it earlier, but they let it get more out of hand as the night went on, and things just seemed to get more ridiculous as the game progressed as far as what actually was called on the ice and what wasn't. It was a bad elbow, no doubt. An elbow that shouldn't have been made and should have been addressed when it happened, but now it has been and we all know about it and are set to suffer in an important game because it happened. But, when it's all said and done, does the punishment really fit the crime? The Maine team is being punished for an oversight by the officials, and to make up for the blown call during Saturday's game they've decided to stick it to Maine for the next game against a completely different team and have decided to call that justice.![]()
Your line of reasoning seems a little flawed. If it had been seen during the game, he probably would have been tossed right then, guessing a major for contact to the head and game misconduct or DQ. If a DQ, he would have been out tomorrow anyway or more if he already got a DQ this season. Even if not a DQ, the league would have still reviewed it and probably added a game itself under the supplemental discipline policy. So it seems that the only thing that's different is you got to have him play for the rest of the game Saturday, a game you won and that he probably helped you win.

That doesn't matter, the refs didn't see it and if it weren't for that crybaby Denehy no one ever would have. It's all a conspiracy against Maine to keep them from getting home ice (where they are unbeatable) in the playoffs concocted by York, Quinn, Madigan and George W Bush so that the Boston Teams get an advantage in the playoffs.
When did they install Timmy as the coach of the USA women's team? Wooowwww
Think of it this way... the series is on the road against one of the better teams in HE so there is no way ME was winning it anyways. Now you have an excuse to blame it on. BOSTON BIAS!!!
