Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

As of right now, Bracketology has Maine playing Quinnipiac and Vermont playing Union in Bridgeport. I like it!:)

Beats Worcester with BC, UMass-Lowell and Michigan!

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I find it ridiculous that if it wasn't called and nobody was injured how it would even be considered for review after the fact. I guess this must be considered a victory for Merrimack in their eyes seeing how they can't get one on the ice.....may as well try for something.

It is pretty ridiculous. Hockey East might as well give Merrimack a powerplay to start its next game too; but of course that isn't in the rules, but if it was, I'm sure some people would be very supportive and say that Hockey East is within its right to award them one and was completely justified in doing so since it was within the rules. They might as well review tapes from all the other games too and nitpick and see who else should sit out games. Go through all the rest of tapes to find them and make them all pay, because it's within the rules to make them all sit.

It will be a good road challenge, and it will be great to see if they can overcome the adversity. I'm sure they'll be ready for the challenge and it will be a good test on the road.

Wait... how many Merrimack guys got suspended for throwing lethal elbows against Maine?
Lethal elbows... That's rich.
Answer: None, because Red didn't and wouldn't call up Smokey Joe Bertagna after a game and cry that some MC player played dirty against him. Please...........

The only "ridiculous" aspect of all this might be Mark Dennehy submitting the play to the league, but I don't find that ridiculous either. I'm sure the league doesn't waste time reviewing tapes for the hell of it. If something is brought to their attention, they will review it. If you don't like that, fine. But it's how any normal league functions. The best part of all here is that you don't seem to want to lay any blame for this at the feet of Lomberg himself. Your pathetic argument is that simply because nobody saw it on the ice/nothing was called, than anything goes. If you can't admit that that is a stupid argument...

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

The article in the BDN also states that the league official reviews all game tapes. It seems to me that this is a standard review of a game tape and the infraction was noted and punishment was handed out accordingly.
Wait... Are you suggesting that the "the league official" randomly reviewed all game tapes from Saturday night 2/15/14 HE games, and in the game tape from Maine vs Merrimack happened to see this elbowing infraction that was never called during the game; then handed out a one game suspension to Lomberg? And that no one from Merrimack or anywhere else brought this missed infraction to the league's attention to look into? Really?

Question for you all: Is it (A) highly probable (B) somewhat probable or (C) not at all probable that Coach Dennehy or some other representative of MC contacted HE officials after the 2/15 game and asked them to specifically review the game tape for this Lomberg play? Duh!!!

Yeah, I guess you pretty much nailed it. If the game has passed and they called a penalty on it anyway it seems to me that the league truly is nitpicking and causing a game that is passed to to have a huge impact on a game yet to come, and had it been addressed properly at the time by the officials this never would have had to happen, even if they are staying true to their rules of supplementary discipline. If it's a stupid argument, I'm sticking with it just the same.

I would be happy if the league would follow what the NHL does, through Brendan Shanahan, and show the tape of the infraction and explain why the call warranted Lomberg having to sit the next game. If fans pay $50 per ticket to see a game, they aren't going to be happy to see their team put in jeopardy without so much as a video shown of the infraction and an explanation of their decision to sit a player a game.

No, absolutely not the argument. The argument is:
1. How was an infraction that was egregious enough to warrant a one-game suspension of a player missed by all four officials?
2. Why was it not brought to a referee or linesman's attention during the game?
3. How was it brought to HE's attention after the game for review, judgment and punishment?
I think we know the answer.

ha some of you homers are something else. how dare
the league have the audacity to suspend a precious black bear. i mean it's never been done before in this league! oh wait...it has??? and to "boston" players? that can't be right, just has to be a conspiracy against maine.

you guys wanna be able to cheat and get away with it. that's the maine way after all. as they say, old habits die hard. nice seeing the three area clowns somehow try to turn this around on bc though.

Since you're at least somewhat reasonable about this I guess, I'll play along.

1. Is that a serious question? We're talking about Hockey East refs here.
2. You'd have to ask Merrimack that.
3. Mark Dennehy

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I have linked the article. I just stated what was quoted in the article about the league reviewing all game tapes. He says it right in the article.

http://bangordailynews.com/2014/02/...suspension-for-elbowing-merrimack-defenseman/

I for one really have no idea what the league does in regards to reviews and I am most certain no one else here does either.

Bertagna probably hired Jack Parker to review the tapes on a weekly basis........there's our answer!:p
