Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I saw earlier on Hockeyeastonline.com that Coach Gendron has a twitter account. He posted a message about Nyquist being named to Team Sweden, and Howard representing Team USA, and his twitter message was retweeted by HockeyEast.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

So I suppose it is slow this week since there isn't any hockey "fix"...

But I was reading this link:

http://www.goblackbears.com/sports/m-hockey/2013-14/releases/201402041fm8yx

And there is some great info all around. But one of the things that caught my attention was the consecutive games played totals...

IRON BLACK BEARS: Maine has several players who are in the midst of impressive consecutive games streaks. Devin Shore has not missed a game in his career as Black Bears. Here are some current numbers:

Player Consecutive Games Played

Mark Anthoine 117

Devin Shore 62

Ryan Lomberg 47

Jon Swavely 47

Conor Riley 41

Ben Hutton 35

I think it is amazing that Devon Shore hasn't missed a game. I think it is equally, or more, impressive Anthoine has gone 117 straight! For both of those... wow! The top guys and leaders on this team have some brass to 'em.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Well, here is some more motivation from my readings...

BLACK BEAR SLAP SHOTS: Maine and Notre Dame have met five times in history, with the Irish holding a 4-1-0 lead in the all-time series... Two of the games Maine won on the ice, but were later forfeited due to an ineligible player... All five games in the series have been played at neutral sites... A total of two goals have been scored in the last two games between the two schools, both 1-0 UND wins... The two teams last met in the 2012 Ice Breaker in Kansas City, Mo... Notre Dame skated to a 1-0 win in the game... Dan Sullivan stopped 33 shots in net for the Black Bears.

I almost think it would be appropriate to give Sully a start Friday just so he can get some revenge. Let the team storm the net. :)

Then give Oullette his focus on Saturday night. He's gonna have to learn to become mr. Saturday night special...

I know, I am old now and this is lost on so many, but not Wally, or Rufus, of ACS64... I mean all bear. :D

I mean, I am no rocket scientist, but I stayed in a holiday inn express last night. This is your season, this weekend. It means the difference end of post season success or not. Gotta lay it on the line this weekend. :D

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Definitely a big weekend. Time for Maine to get a road win or two, and pass ND in the PWR.

Watched both UNH/ND games this past weekend, and UNH looked like the better team... Might bode well for Maine; we'll see.

I think you see Ouellette the rest of the way...the myth that he's tired is way over the top...they will win or lose with #51 in net the rest of the season(imo).

Big weekend for sure...Notre Dame is a different team at home, while Maine is a different team on the road...one thing for sure UNH exposed Notre Dame,Maine needs to fore-check and clog the passing lanes and with a little luck Notre Dame power-play has break downs and look for Maine to sniff at scoring a short-handed goal or two...will come down the Ouellette/low scoring games...3-2/2-1.

They'll tie fri night and lose by 2 goals on Sat. Hope they prove me wrong.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

So with the Cumberland Cty CC renovation almost complete what are the chances of Portland hosting a regional? I would think the NCAA would love Portland as a choice. Great location i.e. walking distance to tons of bars, restaurants and hotels. Easy access to airport, updated facility etc etc. I mean nothing against Worcester but I think Portland has WAY more to offer and it's more accessable imo.
Who's responsible for getting the ball rolling on this? City officials, CC trustees? Anyone, Bueller? Bueller?

My guess is your AD (and his tireless staff of minions) needs to be the motivational force, acting as the host.

I'd love Portland, as Manchester is the only place closer and it's a much nicer city to visit. My free overnight housing in Scarboro doesn't hurt either. :D

I would imagine the issue to be its less than centralized location relative to the rest of New England. Most folks in the east are driving to the regionals, and Worcester (what a dump!) is closer to more population clusters. The sudden rise of Q, [Proviced and Ylae has also made Bridgeport and Providence look pretty well located. But hey, they tried Amherst, maybe all Portland needs to do is actually bid.

I disagree about Worcester being closer. I mean, maybe a little, but the difference in driving time from NH, Boston etc would be negligable. And like you said Worc. is a dump. I've been to 3 regionals there and have no interest in walking around and seeing anything......cause there's nothing to see. Portland also gives you the option of taking Amtrack and Concord Trailways. When it's held in Worcester your only choice is to drive. I don't think there would be an empty seat in the house if held here. They're all about attendance so......

Maine put in a bid before the CC renovations, but there were deficiencies with the arena (that are being addressed by the renovations, such as not enough locker rooms) . I suspect they will put in a bid now that the arena is more suitable.

So it's the school that has to apply. I would assume thay have to work in conjunction with the Civic Center trustees and the city. Hopefully they chop chop. I'm guessing it would be 2018 even if they applied now. '15 & '16 are set.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

It was interesting to hear Jack Capuano as a guest on the coaches show. He had a lot of good things to say, but the most interesting was the list of former players in the Islanders organization... Garth Snow(GM), Jack Capuano(Head Coach), Mike Dunham(Goalie Coach), Bob Corkum(Player Development), Scott Pellerin(AHL Head Coach). It is amazing. That and the news about the Ferraro Brothers owning rinks where juniors and youth is played on long island.

Yeah, that was a great radio show tonight. I think it's going to be archived on goblackbears.com so if anyone missed it they can go back and listen later.

The arena is still going to be a dump. They changed absolutely nothing about the horrific seating.

The seating isn't very good, as you say, and the attendance will be dismal if Maine isn't there.

Perhaps this will be a more pertinent topic if Maine wins a road game, or two.

They give Alfond season ticket holders the worst seats in the house. Place sucks but I'd still go to a regional there
