5 Seniors 8 incoming freshman.

Who does everyone think will get cut this offseason?

Nobody has to get cut, he can have more players on the team just can't dress them all. Some of the guys aren't getting scholarship money so no need to cut them

Clearly, though, Ouelette has been everything to Maine this year, even considering the all-around improvement under Red... If a guy with Sully-type skills had started every game for the Bears, they wouldn't even be within a shout of the NCAAs right now, IMO.

Yeah, but Ouellette was kinda like this last year too, but didn't have nearly as much to show for it with TIMMAY-time happening in front of him.

I could see Campbell being shown the door, doesn't seem to be good enough.

Well, I am not sure I agree. First, he is a freshman that hasn't gotten a lot of playing time. Traditionally speaking some freshmen get plugged in the line up right away, others fight hard to get playing time. And that works because some players need time to adjust to the speed of the game. Some struggle with stress due to hockey/academic balance for example. Not sure what applies in Campbell's case. But from my perspective I haven't seen him play enough to even form a reasonable opinion. But usually most fans give freshmen the benefit of the doubt until they are considered upperclassmen.

I heard an interview with Gendron and he says he wants to be long term greedy. To me this would mean if anyone were on the hot seat it would be upperclassmen that aren't playing well enough to be in line with how upperclassmen play on playoff ilk teams.

Having said all of that, I do not think I would like to see anyone cut. Or think any particular player needs to be cut. However, I think it would be fantastic if the players in the hot seat had their positions challenged such that they have to earn their spot in the line up. I feel this is how Walsh used to run the team. Some years there were guys in dress clothes watching that could have been in the starting line up very considerable number of D1 teams. Now this may seem mean, or something. But at long as the coaching staff is honest about it up front, everyone that puts that Maine sweater on knows they aren't guaranteed a spot and have to earn it.

My $0.02 on the matter.

Looking forward to watching the games this weekend. :)

Well, I think too much is attributed to Oullette for some reason. Now, I think he is a fantastic goalie. But, it seems to me, that any goalie is only as good as the team that plays in front of him. And on nights when the team can't minimize odd man rushes, or traffic in front, or power play positioned shots in the slot and between the dots... a goalie is going to look bad. On nights when the team minimizes those a goalie looks great.

From what I can gather from witness accounts of the game against BC, Maine allowed a lot of those bad things I mentioned. In particular, the traffic in front. If a goalie is screened and reacting to tipped shots and redirections he's gotta be some kind of miracle worker to compensate for it.

My guess is that a lot of elements were at play. First a mid week game put the team on a short week. Second, it was a short week where the team has to travel. Third, they are on a short week against a top D1 team and played them hard into overtime. Fourth, and after all that, they play another top D1 team that has an axe to grind on their home ice(given how Maine ran them on Maine's ice). This all adds up to a very severe challenge. So let's not get too down on it.

The team for all intents and purposes has a similar, albeit less severe, scenario this weekend. Tuesday game, travel to a solid team on their ice... happens to be the arch rival. UNH is a bit of a wounded animal. Should be interesting to see how the team responds. I am hoping to see them respond in the manner that goes along with the cliché... it isn't how hard to fall, it is how fast you get back up.

Looking forward to seeing the games this weekend. :)

Its a wait & see...he has had no playing time to prove himself, yes he has played...but I would expect he's here next season and beyond...some players take time and he very well be that type that next season he cracks the lineup more often and he just improves from his So. year to Jr.& Sr. years. I would think Gendron is building the Team in regards to making it more better depth wise, sometimes players sit and don't get a chance till there last 2 seasons...as I said time will tell. Patience.

As the cliche goes, it looked like the ice was tilted toward Ouellette. Any time BC came out of their zone, it was 3 men across and we were backpedaling like corner backs. Every time we took it into the neutral zone, they were poking, hitting, and breaking up passes. Poor Marty, even when he had defensemen there, it felt like a 3 man break away because no one tried anything until it was already being shot on the goal.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

If anyone is interested, here are UNB's lines for tonight:

Ben Duffy - Chris Culligan "C" - Philippe Maillet
Thomas Nesbitt - Cam Braes - Nick MacNeil
Cam Critchlow - Taylor MacDougall - Philippe Halley
Shea Kewin - Dylan Willick - Mike Thomas
Cam MacLise

D:
Jordan Murray - Ben Shutron
Keevin Cuttine - Marc-Antoine Desnoyers
Matt Petgrave - Adrian Robertson
Tim Priamo

Goalies:
Charles Lavigne and Joel Vienneau

The V-Reds are in a rebuild year. Only 9 of these player played in CIS national championship game back in March. Tyler Carroll, who was the tourney MVP has only played 5 games this season due to a number of injuries and won't be dressed tonight.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Not a great start to the exhibition game so far. UNB leads 2-0 halfway through the first period.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Well, they're going to start the second period down 3-0. We'll see if the lockerroom lecture makes a difference. Before the game Gendron said that Ouellette and Sullivan would split time for the game, and Sullivan's turn is yet to come.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Is that the audio, or video. My audio keeps cutting in and out all night. Am I the only one?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Really, cause with the audio only stream, right now I've got nothing.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

It's awesome they've been able to tie things up, 3-3. I've only been listening on the radio, but a few years ago when I was living away I paid for a season pass to home video, and the streaming quality then was often poor. Northeastern and Vermont both offer streams for free that are a lot better than the one Maine offered when I last saw their video stream, so I guess not much has changed.

Now the video / audio is marginal, at least
