Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Stole a point @ UML...and got taken to the Wood Shed by BC...not what we wanted, but at the same time a lesson and lets hope they take it in stride, not to like it...but to move on...a lot of hockey left to play.

Right. Instead of dwelling on it and feeling sorry for themselves, get angry, and work even harder. Realize what needs to be done to get to that level.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

The Bears have little depth, and when they are playing away games the opposing teams can really take advantage of the last change.
I agree and it hurts when any of the top 3 lines have a guy out. Swavely not playing hurts. I doubt that would have made a difference last night as BC is a far better team right now

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Correct plenty of teams over the years have rode the backs of Freshman and Sophmore netminders, why can't Maine...plus this is a different ERA and Coaching Staff @ Maine.

Exactly. Look at Demko last night. If you have size, depth and talent then you don't need a Jimmy H to be successful. Just someone decent. Likw Wally said, we haven't seen next yrs tenders yet. There may be a stud in waiting.

I also am jumping off the 18 win prediction. I just don't see it with the games remaining. I see 16 max. Hope I'm wrong but that's a rare occurance. ;):)

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I thot Maine played pretty well actually.
I respect your opinion a-b, but NO, just no, Maine did not play well last night. Friday night at Lowell? Yes, they dug deep and played well, taking a point with the tie against a very good hockey team.

I am guessing that this is what Red is telling the boys today... before he makes them skate until they puke.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I have three prayers after last night's debacle:
1. BC is peaking early and will not continue their current win/lose pace.
2. Maine gets and keeps everyone healthy and goes on their own tear.
3. Carlton Barrett doesn't come trolling. argh argh argh

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

On the plus side, Maine officially split with BC with only a -1 goal differential on the year.

Even though there are no real "moral victories," I agree, that is something to be impressed by, especially after how badly last night's game went.

I know this is going to sound Carlton-like but it should be noted that was without Santini and also had Linell on defense and straight at forward. Big difference between last night's lineup and the previous one.

REALLY? Wow can't believe you would make excuses. And Maine was out a 1st line wing in Steve Swavely last night and Josh Henke another forward but no excuse for losing except we don't have as much talent. Reason #197 on why BC fans are the most annoying in Hockey East! Excuses!!! And more Excuses!

With or without them BC is still the better team. Maine had a first liner out and that really kills Maine as they have no depth. It wouldn't matter if he had played BC is still the better team.

On to UHN, I guess they lost a couple of key guys in the Union series. I wonder if they'll be ready for Maine? I wonder if Swavely will be back? Hopefully I'll see them play UNB on tuesday, should have all the guys who haven't been playing in there. I expect Sully in net.

It might have helped on Friday. The Shore line seems to work a lot better with S. Swavely on it.
Nice to see Byron back out there, tho.

(I hear ya: the Ex- always said that we would've worked better together if I was wrong about something once in a while...)

I'm going to predict 17 wins, and an outside-shot at the NCAAs, barring key injuries.

And as far as the goalie situation next season goes, I'm hoping that another Marty-like guy comes along, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. (Hope I'm wrong, for once. :p)

Clearly, though, Ouelette has been everything to Maine this year, even considering the all-around improvement under Red... If a guy with Sully-type skills had started every game for the Bears, they wouldn't even be within a shout of the NCAAs right now, IMO.

God only knows. All-American D and single best player TVR rumored to have a broken ankle. Second line center and specials teams guy Downing rumored to have separated shoulder. Not gonna help the Cats avoid their traditional late season swoon.

Yeah. Marty is the cornerstone of te team. I'm not discouraged at all tho. Great progress and Red is got it headed the right way. With the exception of sat. at least it's not embarassing to watch them play this season. I just don't see an NCAA berth tho. They are gonna hover between that 15 to 17 spot and get whacked by an auto bid.

Maybe we can finally get a road win.
