Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Just received this email:

Fenway Sports Management and Hockey East today announced earlier start times for the Saturday, January 11, hockey doubleheader at Fenway Park featuring UMass Lowell vs. Northeastern, and University of Maine vs. Boston University. The two hockey games will now start at 2:15 and 5:45, respectively – 45 minutes earlier than originally scheduled.

The change was made to accommodate fans who would like to get home in time to watch the 8:15 p.m. divisional playoff game between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

Fenway Park gates are scheduled to open at 1:15 p.m.

With Byron, O'Connor, and Henke out they obviously didn't have the depth they would have if those guys were healthy. Did Norman get hurt during the game or did Red bench him? It seemed like for a lot of the game Maine was only skating five dmen.

Each team skated 19 players.

The weather could be an issue. This was posted in the UML thread.
If they could make it a morning game it'd be even better. Saturday isn't looking like a nice day at all. Based on what I'm seeing right now, we'll have showers in the afternoon, becoming a steady rain by evening. Temperatures will be near or a little over 50. I know that the makeup day is Sunday, and that looks much better right now - clearing, breezy, temperatures in the 30s.

Critique .... discuss... evaluate... my point is did anyone talk about the 2nd goal? Other mistakes made throughout the game? or other players that took dumb penalties? Made mistakes? ... call it how you see it however it seems directly (sometimes brutally) at one player at a time versus looking at the play as a whole .. discuss away some of it is intelligent and relevant. The individual player attacks take away from that.
Well Mr.Rutt was also on the ice for the 2nd goal by Quinnipiac.

having fun? why don't you just say what you are thinking instead of beating around the bush

It is getting a bit old with runsub . One would think he would at least man up and admit the direction of the team is significantly improved over previous years versions.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

NU beat Prov, Harvard ties Quinnipiac, Maine is going to have to bring their A game the 2nd half of the season.

Maine has a history of playing well in the second half of the season and I think it will continue, beginning with the Fenway game against BU.

Yeah, it was very impressive last year how they went down to the Whittemore Center and thwarted UNH's chances of being the Hockey East Regular Season Champions, and instead UNH wound up on the road for the playoffs!

Hopefully they can all stay healthy and have Byron and O'Connor back in the lineup soon too.

Not recent history....the last 5 years they are 48-50-15 after the break. With a new coaching staff that can motivate and get the most out of each player I would expect those numbers to change for the positive over the next few years.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Let's get ready for BU and think about all of the best moments in this historic rivalry... there are many.

One of my favorites(which isn't that old school) is Barrett Heisten flipping off the BU crowd at Walter Brown. What a lovable moment!

I encourage both Maine and BU fans to talk about their favorite moments. A trip down memory lane when both our programs didn't suck. :)

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Best BU memories . McEacherans OT HE title winner at Garden . Prendergasts OT winner in Orono Maines first loss I believe that season in their two loss(?) season and of course the 95 title game with OSullivan shooting down the goalie after his goal

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

That was Maine's only loss of the season--they had two ties (42-1-2). I think Maine was ahead by four goals at one point, 6-2, which made the OT loss all the more painful. That was on a Friday night; the next night the Bears took care of business, defeated BU, won the HE title and skated around the rink displaying the trophy.

I guess my favorite Maine-BU moment was watching Jackie Parker get so ****ed off at something that he started throwing water bottles on the ice at the Alfond.

As I recall, McEachern's OT title winner at the Garden was a one-timer off a perfect (and very obvious) hand pass from the corner to the high slot.

Thing is, that was a big improvement over what Tim's teams had accomplished in the 1st half of those seasons, more often than not. ;)

Was that the night Jackie's classy assts were trying to climb over the glass to punch out some fans.
