Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

and the only team I've seen that is head and shoulders above Maine, talent-wise, is Minnesota. Pretty-much everyone else is on the same page.

What are we defining as "talent" exactly? Sitting at 20th in the Pairwise, if they are on par talent-wise with everyone else aside from BC, MN and QU, what is the problem? Do they have worse coaching than the 16 other teams ahead of them in performance but on par talent-wise?

Maine's been rubbish on the road, simple as. That's why they are 20th. The good thing for them is that they most likely won't have to play any road games in the playoffs, assuming they don't fall apart completely in the next month.

If BC can keep their top line healthy they will be tough to beat in the playoffs, any of those three get hurt and I think they are all done.

So their talent doesn't show up on the road? Or are they pretty much where they belong in the PWR and it is commensurate with their talent? Or is Red a horrible coach (only on the road, right!?).

BC could absorb an injury this year to a top guy and be in a lot better shape than last year (Hayes), particularly with Demko likely emerging, but the other freshmen would have to step up. There are guys in the stands that would be top "talent" at Maine but they aren't that great and belong in the stands at BC, which brings me back to my original point....

They've only been well beaten in one game on the road, against BC, so it isn't bad performances or lack of effort. I think more than anything else they just haven't quite been good enough. In some cases playing in non-nhl sized rinks hasn't helped either. I'm not too worried about it.

I think Demko is very good but I'll agree to disagree with you on their fate if someone on the top line goes down. Some of the other guys are very athletic but don't think they have the talent to compensate.

Go away little bc nerd. You dont have the qualifications to talk talent like your buddy chrissy does, who has by the way simply disappeared after bc was totally drubbed and scrubbed at Alfond.

Red clearly has struggled to properly motivate and coach this team on the road. This is his first year as a head coach, his home record gives me confidence that he will figure out the road problem eventually.

Future still looks bright from here.

Really? Either you haven't watched/listened to/seen any road games other than BC or are seeing it way differently than most of us. Red's coaching isn't the problem.

I think Red has tried everything under the sun to get road wins except putting on a pair of skates himself and that wouldn't do ****, no need to finish, you know what I mean. It's in the player's court and they need to do what it takes, period.

Right now, it's probably in their heads a little bit. But they struggle to score goals on the road, maybe because they just aren't as comfortable in strange environments, and not in the cozy Alfond. They're also a pretty young team, and young teams have growing pains.

But as was said, they've only been really out of a road game once, and that was the BC schmucking. A break or two here or there, a lucky bounce or a shot that's a couple inches to the left or right, and we wouldn't be talking about their road woes. While it's unfortunate, I've got no problem with it, nor am I concerned. Compared with how this team has looked for most of the past six or seven years, I'm thrilled as hell with what they've done this year. At the very least, they're fun to watch again, and they don't take no crap from anyone.

I see no reason Maine can't get points from NU the things they're doing in terms of the disparity on shots and possession can't hold up. Maybe if it was a Timmy team that made every goalie they play look like Roy that'd be one thing. They can tread water, get home ice, win a series, get to Boston and just hope to either be hot or have the math work out in the PWR. I don't think that's any great accomplishment and that's why I was always flabbergasted that Timmy couldn't pull it off more than once in 8 years.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

There's at least a Dozen teams that could be lumped in at winning the N.C. in Philadephia this Spring. Not just BC/MN/Quinnipiac...Maine is rebuilding/retooling and have met or past many expectations...still a-lot of work to be done...but this season is gravey to most/compared to the last 4-5 years...I really think this will take this season and next to start to see what Gendron & Crew will have in store for the future. A top 5 finish in Hockey East is possible/along with a trip to Boston...but I really think the NCAA's will be out of their grasp/unless they win the Auto-Bid for winning the Post Season in Boston.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

If this team makes it to Boston, I just might have to go this year. An NCAA berth would be icing on the cake, but I'm just not sure they can pull that one off. But oh, if they could...............................

I was at both Umass games. Maine did a great job cycling in the corners to maintain possession but could not create enough quality scoring chances. Made their goalie look like the best in show.

I wrote that off as early in the season with a new coach/system.

I was at BC. They looked like they did at Umass except they were playing BC.

I think what Red has done at home has been spectacular.

I don't think you can only blame a lack of talent when there is such an absurd discrepancy in home and away records.

Maybe Red needs to play a recording of the Stein song on the away bench?
