Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Maine has 8 games left, doubt one can make a case for better than .500 if Higgins and Swavely come back. I think Marty needs this bye week more than anyone. Be great if they could get some points at South Bend, I don't see any at NU, hopefully they can get some against PC, tall order though, need a sweep against MC. Not sure where that will put them in HE, doubt its home ice but no one should have expected that anyway. Last night it was clear Maine has one really good line and its the one with Shore on it. Doesn't seem to matter who he plays with. I think the Freshman have hit the first year wall although they looked alot better late in last nights game than they did early, maybe a week off will do them good also. No matter what this team plays hard and is way more fun to watch that the last few years.

Amen Wally...Amen

Thoughtful of Maine to wait for me before winning their first road game of the year, in South Bend.

Knock on wood.

Either way, looking forward to seeing Maine again, and within driving distance. Never woulda guessed that when I moved here. Thanks, ND. I'm still not sure Hockey East made the most sense for you, but I like it.

I saw Stu Higgins on crutches, I doubt he is back soon.

He's out for the rest of the season and will have surgery and will be ready to go next year. Although disappointed he remains very positive. GOOD LUCK STUIE!

A guy who plays in all situations, that sucks, that really hurts the team. I assume torn ACL

Good win, came as a result of Shore and Lomberg. This Maine team simply doesn't have the talent they need to compete on a natl level. Its not shocking, its the same team as last year with some decent freshman who aren't quite strong enough yet. Cam Brown played a good game, I think Marty looked out of sync in the 3rd, he was fighting the puck and didn't have a clue where the rebound was going. Maine really carried the play in the 2nd and 3rd and that should tell you quite a bit about UNH as in they ain't very good either.

Wally, I respectfully disagree.

When we were in Canton for the SLU games on opening-weekend, things looked pretty d*mn grim to me for Maine this year... But -having seen only ten games this season- I think that the gradual improvement in this team's play has been beyond impressive. (I never thought that this team could have looked as good as it did vs. UNH this weekend, for instance; Maine really should've won both games.)

As far as the 'tending goes, Marty is the guy. He let-in one softie last night, but he made a couple of great saves on tipped shots late in the game. Overall, his skill-set is way better than Sully's, IMO.

Maine is right there/right now, in terms of competing for an NCAA berth. I get to see a ton of games from every region, and the only team I've seen that is head and shoulders above Maine, talent-wise, is Minnesota. Pretty-much everyone else is on the same page.

The only difference down the stretch will be via bounces and effort, and I love the fact that Red has released the hounds. This team is more talented that I ever thought it was, and they play with genuine heart.

Very fun to watch.

What happened to that in/out/home by the numbers thread that usually happens? Is BU really out of the title hunt already?

Lol. At 46th in the PWR I think BU is right in the mix.

The UNH team I saw is going nowhere, they weren't that good so thinking Maine is NCAA bound based on winning once against UNH is out there if you ask me

I never said he wasn't the guy, he has been awesome most nights but he is either tired or hurt based on what I saw this weekend compared to earlier in the year

I haven't seen that many teams, I see you added BC and Quinipiac, both much deeper than UMaine. I'll wait and see on NU and PC

This I agree with, more talented, fun to watch, Red has done a great job, still not a deep team. Losing Higgins and Swavely has really hurt. Hopefully Swavely is back for ND
