Yes he did, and thank you... (It seems like he's finally learned to block a little bit, too.)

Seems that most of the criticism on here re: Maine football comes from the young 'uns who never had to witness just how putrid the program was way back when.

My lasting image of Maine football when I was there is of the students and fans celebrating a late score to defeat Rhode Island only to watch in horror as the Rams returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD and won the game.

Cosgrove sells a dream (playing in the NFL) and last night proves that the dream is alive and well. If a kid from Enfield, Maine can make it............

Captain is Brice O'Connor. Assistants are Mark Anthoine and Devin Shore.

From http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=20868&navid=nhl:topheads :

"The Detroit Red Wings have assigned forward Gustav Nyquist to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.

Goaltender Petr Mrazek also was sent to Grand Rapids, and forward Darren Helm will be put on long-term injured reserve, according to the report.

Nyquist played in all 14 games for the Red Wings during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but a number of offseason additions, plus the re-signing of Daniel Cleary earlier this month, created a glut of forwards on the Detroit roster."

Seems that most of the criticism on here re: Maine football comes from the young 'uns who never had to witness just how putrid the program was way back when. I find it close to amazing how Maine has recruited/won over the past couple of decades, and how it keeps sending guys to the NFL.

Cozzy might not be Knute Rockne, but he has to be the most successful football coach Maine has ever had, by any reasonable measure.

It's really tough to compare because of the league they're in. They're essentially the Merrimack, Providence, Lowell or whatever of the CAA and Maine people, well the young'uns anyway, got used to being Maine in Hockey East. So you expect something similar in football and its just hard to pull that off in the Northeast. UNH has kind of done it, and hopefully if Maine keeps getting decent QBs and good assistants they can too.

There was a time when Maine had a knack for blowing games against ranked teams at the end. JMU and Delaware in 04, William & Mary in 10, and seemingly every year against UNH. 2 of the last 3 years they're closing those games and it's been pretty fun to watch.

It def. changes your perspective when Maine isn't Maine anymore in Hockey East too.

He'll be back up,he was easier to move down to the AHL and not exposed to a wavier claim...

That sort of thing happened frequently during my years at Maine, but it was an obscure team like Kutztown State pulling it off back then.

The Bears aren't losing to teams like that anymore, thankfully, and they don't even schedule that ilk of program these days. (Hell, they looked better than BCS-ranked Northwestern for much of that game a couple of weeks back.)

Having seen them twice, I'm feeling pretty good about their prospects. I expect them to roll Delaware, and finish with enough wins to gain a FCS PS-berth. I'll even put a buck or two on that prediction, as long as their key players stay healthy.

Just heard Red on the Dale Duff show - favorite quote so far "I get paid a fair amount of money to terrorize young people......and I am fairly good at it"

I am sure that won't be the last great quote from this guy!

Gus must be very disappointed. Pretty expensive AHL contract! I'm surprised. Everything I read in pre season had him centering the 3rd or 4th line.

Time for the Season thread. Let's get this tired dog closed out.

Dalhousie plays at Northeastern Saturday night before coming in here for the Sunday game. I wonder if any of the coaching staff will be in Boston.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Not sure it applies to exhibition (Canadian) opponents, but the NCAA has banned live scouting because they think it gives unfair advantage to the schools with bigger budgets. Another ridiculous NCAA rule.

Larry will love this guy, like the state house reporters love LePage.
