Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

So since $$ is so tight at the U. Why don't they consider selling beer and wine at hockey games. If I'm not mistaken it up to the University as BU does it. That would generate 5,6,7 8K per game. If just 1/5 of the crowd bought just one beer that would be 5-6k.

Maybe they could sell tickets for $200 that allow you to purchase beer? I probably shouldn't joke about that the way things have gone with them the last few years. I think they started selling it a couple years ago at football games, would make sense to do so.

There are so many things/promotions they could do to increase revenue. I personally can think of several things. It amazes me how nobody up there WHO'S JOB IT IS can think of anything.

Any word on who the volunteer assistant is going to be?

Don't know. However, John Ronan has just been hired as a volunteer assistant coach by Rick Bennett at Union. John was a captain on the 2005 Maine team and just completed his degree at Maine in May.

He would have been nice to bring in. Certainly would have helped recruiting in mass. How many goals during Tim's time were bigger than his against Harvard in '02?

What ever happened to giving the players numbers from 1-31. If # 91 was assigned #19, does he really believe his game would be lessened. Or do the kids want the odd numbers in order to be noticed more easily by the pro scouts?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

New staff and all but I wish they didn't give out 89 just yet. One of those Red Sox 21/45 feelings for me personally.

I think the kids are used to having high numbers from jrs in some ways, they're probably keeping what they're used to. I think the 91 thing started in part because there were so many great players wearing 19s, Sakic had seniority and one Canadian Olympian swapped it to 91. Read that story in maybe 02, not 100% sure.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Think about it, growing up, who were the "skilled" players that players loved? 99 Gretzky, 88 Lindros 66 Lemieux, 68 Jagr, 77 Bourque...of course there were great players that wore traditional numbers like Sakic, but yeh...

I coach a high school team and that was the first thing I changed when I purchased new sweaters for the team... 1-22 & 31. Some freshman asked if he could have 78 and my response was "nope, but you can have 7 or 8, as long as no upper classmen have that number"

That said, I get the superstition aspect. I am convinced I pay better when I am wearing 13...
