Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I think that is exactly right, but the opposite is true too, that if Maine loses to AIC, or does not beat them 7-0, then Maine is in big trouble.
It was not that long ago that Bentley beat Maine, and iirc, Nyquist being kept off the board.
Yikes !! If Maine only beats AIC 1-0, its the end of the world as we know it ??? Holy Moly !!!:eek::eek::eek:

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

from: sportsmaniac/maine hockey journal

Andrew Tegeler who has been on UMass Amherst's roster the last past two seasons has committed to Maine. He left UMass in the middle of the year last year to join the Vernon Vipers (BCHL) where he had six goals and 15 assists in 28 games. The 20 year old has one goal in six games in two years with the Minutemen.

also in recruits thread...

i'd assume he was one of red's recruits back when he was at umass

I'm not sure how much he will help Maine considering he couldn't get a game with UMA. There could be mitigating factors though and he probably isn't getting a lot of money. I think he will have to wait till 14-15 to be eligible. Was Swallow Maine's last transfer? It seems like it's been awhile.

if he left during the first semester last year, he would be eligible at the end of the first semester this year... transfers have tgo sit a year, not a year from the end of the end of the full school year when they last attended....

that said, i know nothing of the kid... just copying what mhj was reporting....

Yeah, Kevin Swallow was the last transfer. He came over from Dartmouth and graduated Maine in 2010, so it certainly has been a while.

Sounds like Tegeler had a decent gig back in the BCHL after leaving UMass Amherst, so he could be a good addition.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Last season Maine made five trips to Boston for league games. This season they make six, plus a slog out to Indiana. Plus a non-conference series at St. Lawrence. I looked in to traveling for those games but gave up when I was only in Albany after 13 hours between bus and train :p

If you find the time, make the trip. Appleton is a great old barn.

Last time Maine was there they downed The Larries, who featured Peverly, a current Bruin... I was there then, and met Jimmy's mom, from nearby Ogdensburg. That weekend is a fond memory.

Canton is nearly as remote as Orono, but it's a real hockey town. Certainly worth the travel, at least once.

That was my first thought, also. We will have 8 home, 11 away, and one at Fenway against BU. If you assume that the Fenway game was supposed to be a home game and that UConn will join UVM, BU, Merrimack and PC in the 2 home vs. 2 away rotation, Maine's conference schedule will become completely balanced in terms of home and away as of '14-'15.

The Fenway game was supposed to be BU's home game that was scheduled for November 17. With Notre Dame and UConn in the conference the 2014-15 (and subsequent odd years) schedule should be:
Home: UMass (2), Notre Dame (2), Boston College (2), Northeastern (2)
Road: Vermont (2), Merrimack (2), Providence (2), UConn (2)
Split: Lowell, Boston University, New Hampshire

In 2015-16 (and subsequent even years) the schedule will reverse the home and road teams and the cycle will continue. Along the way games like Fenway or other neutral site conference games may change that.

They do? Used to have B52's coming in there regularly and it used to be an alternate touchdown for the Shuttle, it is that large as you should know. Also has been visited by the Concorde SST before it went up in smoke, quite literally :(
In fact they are beginning construction on the terminal to update it. Heck they even have a bar in the checkpoint now.

That wasn't quite the point I was trying to make.

If Maine wants sell outs, Maine needs wins. If Maine wants to get the fans back and everyone buzzing about the resurgence, then Maine needs to kick AIC butt.

Let me state it a different way:

How do you think Maine can leverage THIS home schedule to get enough fans interested in paying $20+ per ticket and fill up the arena?

Wasn't AIC like the ONLY team that lost to Sacred Heart last season?

So Maine got screwed on home games this year. Lowell should have been coming here for one.

No. They were 2-0-1 against Sacred Heart, and 1-0 against Quinnipiac. Sacred Heart lost to Holy Cross and Bentley.

I dunno Mom....I gotta chew on this a bit longer. If Maine beats AIC only 2-0 will all the once loyal fans stay away ?? :) What if their goalie stands on his head the whole game....will the fans be forgiving then ??

I was talking about if Maine wants sell outs.
The loyal fans, in case you have not been to Orono in a while, cannot come close to filling up the Alfond.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

there was talk of a boat cruise out of Portland a while back with the current players. does anyone know the details? has it already happened?

Lots of goalies stood on their heads the past six years, it seemed.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

That makes more sense. I was going off of Priceless' posted schedule. I should have known better.

Uhhh...the posted schedule has Lowell coming to Alfond December 7.

See:
Saturday 12/07/13; Mass Lowell

But I should have known better than to bother.
