Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

BDN has Bentley @ Maine, Oct 19
Maine @ QU, Jan. 3 (Q played 1 @Maine last year so 1 @ QU would make sense)
???

Hmm Interesting. Will have to check that out. The schedule spreadsheet shows Maine @ Quinnipiac for 2...

ETA: The Maine games were listed on the ECAC website. The schedule has since been edited and the Maine games removed completely. One would assume the Maine @ QU game would be added back in for 1/3/14. Glad I didn't already make hotel reservations!

The schedule below lists the games as they appear in the BDN.

Easily the worst home schedule that I can remember. Only 16 home games and 6 are against CIS and AH teams.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Shouldn't Maine have 10 Hockey East home games and 10 on the road?

The league is allowing for Notre Dame's remote location by scheduling 2 games @ ND this year followed by 2 games @ Orono next year. So next year Maine will have an extra home game.

Maine has to make two separate trips to BC and Lowell. No wonder the travel budget is so far off.

Last season Maine made five trips to Boston for league games. This season they make six, plus a slog out to Indiana. Plus a non-conference series at St. Lawrence. I looked in to traveling for those games but gave up when I was only in Albany after 13 hours between bus and train :p

12 road league games and only 8 home games. Maine is getting the shaft.

The new Indianapolis airport is ridiculously nice. And a lot cheaper than South Bend. I know you don't fly, but it's worth mentioning, for anyone interested in making the trek. Renting a car will be necessary, but anyone flying to S. Bend is probably going to do that, anyway...

That is putting it mildly, can't expect many people to put up the $600 or so dollars it costs for a pair of season tickets for that rubbish. Hopefully its just one awful year. I honestly would be fine with them playing two games at Minnesota or Michigan without them reciprocating. Its a hell of a lot better than two exhibition games or two games against AIC.

Edit: Why the **** are they playing a midweek exhibition game in between weekends where they have two important league games each??? That has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen.

So let me get this straight........Michigan and Minnesota will not travel and Maine is too poor and too isolated to schedule home games?...........yet Minnesota played at Vermont last season and Michigan plays at UNH this season. Is UNH and UVM that much wealthier than Maine??? Is it that much more difficult to fly to Maine than to New Hampshire or Vermont??? Is Gendron already revving up the excuse machine?

Those were the only dates available and Red wanted the games.

Go back and look at Mn and Mi schedules over the last few years. And typically, you don't see a lot of risk taking (playing very good teams in their own barn). wisconsin, too. I don't think they played a single out of conference road game last year... that's one of the reasons I like NoDak. They'll play anyone anywhere.

By and large, Mi and Mn do not travel. I think his point to that was "hey, this is a two way street."

Its too bad that Mi and Mn take that approach.....know they have their own selfish reasons for not traveling but it certainly doesnt help to promote the overall college hockey product....too bad because these are name brand schools and they're not contributing to the growth of the sport. Minnie used to visit Maine way back .....

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Minnie used to visit Maine way back .....
When Hockey East was formed, the league had an agreement with the WCHA which provided for inter-league competition. Minnesota traveled to Orono (and Maine traveled to Minnesota) as part of that agreement.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I posted this on the Facebook fan page:

To a degree, this schedule is the cost of adding Notre Dame to the conference. Most schools in Hockey East are playing NC games against league opponents. With the realignment out west there is even more uncertainty than usual. Army (31), Merrimack, Mankato and Northern Michigan (32 each) are also playing less than the allowed 34 games. We may see AIC, UConn, Sacred Heart, Niagara, Cornell and Quinnipiac join the list.

The other factor is the pairwise. We are no longer considered a power team which guarantees RPI points no matter what, but we are also not a weak team that means one or two easy wins (good for COp). Just ask Lowell, UHN and BC. Hopefully for the 2014-15 season we will see a better schedule as things settle down across the college hockey landscape and Red starts making gains on the RPI front.

Minnesota traveled to freakin Vermont last season! So much for your theories that they do not travel. Vermont is traveling to North Dakota this season.......I assume you will see UND in Burlington next season.

UNH got not 1, but 2 A-list opponents to start series at their place with Michigan and UNO.

This PATHETIC schedule is brought to you by Tim Whitehead........his departing gift and FU to Maine fans. Too bad that he won't be around to win 20 games........at least that part of his plan will not come to fruition.:)

I posted this on the Facebook fan page:

That freakin Notre Dame travel excuse is L-A-M-E. Funny how travel expenses have never been mentioned until now......... Next season, they won't be traveling to Notre Dame........then what will the EXCUSE be????:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Abbott & Co. have gotten very adept at throwing out excuses for EVERYTHING. Looks like they have already indoctrinated Gendron into the "Orono Way".:(

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

In fact, I'd like that to be the new program motto........."NO EXCUSES". That certainly would separate them from the Whitehead regime!
