2-1 Umass. 10 min left. Maine is getting pounded by Umass tongiht. WAYYYY out hitting them. Maine just seems lazy.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

2-1 Umass final. Wow That was a flashback to TIMMAY time. Outworked. Out hit. And couldn't hit the net with shots. Gross. Really regressed tonight IMO.

It's a little concerning Maine hasn't won a road game in four tries. If Maine doesn't get at least three points next weekend they are in a lot of trouble with fewer league games this year.

Do you remember last year, new coach is all that's changed. They took 5 pts from UMass, timmay would have gotten none. Its early and this team has long way to go. They ain't winning hockey east nor are they
finishing in top 4. Patience

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Huge win, the offense looked awful in the 2nd until that final td drive. Be fun to have football in orono in December

Got the game here, and it was a nail-biter for sure.

Agreed... If Stony Brook had any kind of a competent QB, things probably would've ended-up differently.

SB went 2-deep on both sides of the ball, and they wore down the undersized Maine lineman, but Maine had enough skill-guys (and just barely) to win again.

This team is probably not physical enough to win an NC, but they might get stronger during the off-season, and arrive way ahead of schedule. (Just hope that Was is OK; that's crucial.) Maine has a bunch of guys that can play the game.

You are right...PATIENCE...now and into next season. Rebuilding/Retooling can be painstaking but theirs promise and hope with this Staff vs what was in place the last 5-6 years.

I totally agree with the patience. But improvement and progression is what I've seen so far this season. Then last night it was back to TIMMAY time. I'm not freaking out about it, just saying the effort wasn't there. And with this team if they don't give 110% for the full game they won't win. I know...capt obvious. But that should be obvious to the kids too. They'll learn.

I also believe if the guys aren't giving 110% effort Red will bench them and put in someone who will. Effort only gets you so far though, you still need some talent on O and its slim but I believe as season goes on the young guys will get better. Take it to Vermont at home

How is Shore looking?

For the record, last year's Maine team split at Umass. Maine won 2-0 and lost 5-2. This year's team tied and lost. The game at Alfond Arena was tied 2-2.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I was right behind the Maine bench. Gendron was screaming at the players for the last five minutes of the game. I have a feeling they'll be doing a lot of conditioning before the next game.

You can understand that with young kids, and on the road at that. They're not gonna be on top of their game every night. Fortunately, we've got a coach now that knows this, recognizes it when it happens, knows he needs to address it and correct it, and will, and isn't gonna tolerate it if it becomes an habitual thing.

One who demands more from his players other than a meek, "oh well, we'll just keep on working in practice".

Screaming about anything in particular, if you could tell, or just letting them know this effort wasn't good enough?

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

He has some talent for sure, but I'm not convinced he'll ever be "really good".

He's just too naturally passive, IMO... A poor-man's Spencer Abbott, with a lot less vision of the ice and considerably less dexterity.

Red is changing things at Maine, and there is some evident progress, but it's still looking like a 3-4 year project, at best.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Maine drops to 34th in the pairwise this week. The fluctuations are immense. I wonder if that is caused by the very small sample size or if this will continue because now all 59 teams are ranked instead of 25.

Hockey East
#4 Providence (1)
#5 Boston College (18)
#6 Lowell (29)
#14 Vermont (20)
#15 Boston U (36)
#16 Northeastern (14)
#19 Notre Dame (8)
#34 Maine (23)
#35 New Hampshire (28)
#40 UMass (48)
#45 Merrimack (47)

Seven in the top 20. Plus future opponent Quinnipiac (#3) means Maine's schedule is going to fierce moving forward.
