Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Anyone know why Higgins didn't play tonight?

It's going to be tough this year without any good offensive junior or senior forwards. I think the team will get better as the season goes on.

Stu didn't make the trip. He is in Orono rehabbing an injury. I do not envy him his 7AM PT visits.

The W/L record should be pretty good with the schedule that Maine has.......St. Lawrence x2, Bentley, AIC x2, UMass x4, Vermont x4..........that's 13 EXTREMELY winnable games right there.

Well, they lost tonight and Bentley went to Omaha and upset the Mavericks 6-4 so you may want to re-examine what is an EXTREMELY winnable game.

Yes, and to further define winnable games, Sacred Heart defeated UML.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Seems to me they need more out of the Shore line. They're going to need a goal or more a game out of that line most nights, didn't get it tonight. Feel like that line should be able to come up with a power play goal in 4 chances too.

Long way to go.

Its one game kids. Not sure if you paid attention last year or not, there isn't a ton of offensive talent on this team. No coach can change that in one week. Also, Appleton isn't the easiest place to play for a young team. Maine missed wide open nets last week and again last night, no finishers is going to be a problem

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

saw some stuff I liked, saw a bunch of mental mistakes, defensively. that will have to be scrubbed out....thanks timmay for engraining bad habits. they'll be fine...they worked all night and with a little luck game would have been different outcome. as walrus said, very tough place to win at. saw some good things from the frosh, they might have been the biggest weapon out there. it will be a work in progress early but if they continue to work hard, they'll do fine.

real test comes tonight. how will they handle some adversity from last night and will they be mentally prepared to do what it takes

After seeing the team last night.......I probably do.:o This might be a 5 year rebuild.:(

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

It will take Red a couple season to turn this around. Not much talent on the roster to work with. Need to bring some snipers in.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

How can you fire him when he hasn't brought in 1 of his own recruits yet? Give him at least 10 or 12 years like we did with TIMMAY................

Lol, OK, well I guess we can at least be encouraged by the play of the all freshman line. A win tonight would be awful nice.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Oh but they need to show improvement now blah blah blah. Congratulations. Now do you get what I was saying earlier? Red needs to have time to get HIS players in.

This team, after watching tonight, lacks speed 1st and foremost, if it wasn't for Marty it would've been 6-1. And there is no offensive power.

Defense too slow making passes, making forwards stop skating. D-men also appear to be afraid to handle puck, just throwing it off their sticks. That's a lack of confidence these young men must correct. We're to easy to defend against because of lack of skating. Too many dumpins that result in turnovers when team isn't skating. Dumpins are usually turnovers unless you're first to the puck. Only the first game, surely adjustments will be made to our puck possession and and management.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

It will take(imo)a good 10-12 games before you can gauge this Team, alot of adjustments to be made and Gendron has his work cut out for him...and he well knew that when he took this job...it will work its way out,but it will take time...nobody said it would be easy...just be glad that there is DIRECTION now,not excuses/etc.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Cerritani and IIRC Rutt taking selfish penalties late sealed Maine's fate. This team doesn't have the talent to overcome avoidable errors.
