Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I agree with Diego! 3 Years??? We don't have 3 years. Let's see if Red can do for Maine what Patrick Roy has done for the Avalanche?
Can the boards at Alfond handle that?

He has a contract for 4 years. It's possible he gets bought out in the 4th year if the program doesn't improve significantly. I don't really see two consecutive coaches being bought out.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I'm expecting a big improvement immediately in terms of Maine really getting after-it again (it's been a while since we've seen that), but only a modest up-tick in terms of W/L in '13/'14.

Red and his players have said all the right things, and the attitude at Maine appears to back where it used to be... But the biggest factor at this level is talent, and Maine is not exactly stacked in that regard right now.

There is just no substitute for having the horses at this level. None.

Red -or anyone else Maine might have hired- is going to need time to bring in his own recruits and develop them, and the reasonable window to see if he can do that is at least three years, and more likely four, IMO.

I don't think that we will need a buyout with this coach.

Ted Woodward is the last UM coach on the hot seat.

The W/L record should be pretty good with the schedule that Maine has.......St. Lawrence x2, Bentley, AIC x2, UMass x4, Vermont x4..........that's 13 EXTREMELY winnable games right there. Remember that this is a schedule hand picked by TIMMAY to save his own neck.;)

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

He needs to show improvement in less than 3 years IMO. The cupboard is not bare.......there should be progressive improvement starting this season. TIMMAY's problems stemmed more from attitude, preparation, and game management. Are you saying it will take at least 3 seasons to implement those things? Cripes......if that's the case.......here we go again!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree and I think a lot of things, as others have mentioned, have already changed. You will see improvement right away IMO. I'm talking about it's going to be 3 years before they are back to a national power (hopefully). The style, work ethic, attitude etc etc is already changing and improving. I just don't want to see poeple calling for Red's job after next season because they didn't get to the Frozen Four. I think most fans are realistic but there are some who aren't!

Ty. That's exactly what I was talking about in my previous post that Sandie blasted me on.

Maine hasn't been horrible the last few years. They obviously got off to a bad start last year but were good in the second half. The three years before that they were somewhere around 4th/5th in a league with a lot of parity, which isn't awful. I think Red's biggest job is getting everyone on the same page and getting enthusiasm around the program again. There really aren't any programs who are national title contenders year in, year out anymore. Even the one team a lot of people would say is, BC, has failed to win an NCAA game three out of the last five years.

Looks like Maine has three shots at the National Spotlight....

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...r-more-than-20-ncaa-hockey-games-this-season/

Two against the Irish, back to back nights...and an early season against Mass. All away games for the Black Bears...

The October 25 game is in Orono and NESN still has to release its schedule.

Correction. NESN has released its schedule. Maine v Boston University at Frozen Fenway is on the schedule. In all, Hockey East will have 36 games on national TV which is the most of any conference.

Huh. SLU games are EXTREMELY winnable. Lest we forget the results of just a year ago up in Orono. ;)

If any if you made the trip, hope you enjoy Appleton and the North Country. I am pretty good friends with Conor Riley's family, glad to see he gets to play a couple games in front of family and friends from home. Good luck this weekend, should be a couple good, exciting games hopefully.
