Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Ehhhh Maine's a hockey school anyway:D

I don't know if its Marty or Red or both but I'm starting to feel good about things when leading by two goals instead of waiting for the roof to cave in.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Doh. I'll take the blame for this one, cursed it.

Hearing Dan Hannigan's voice coming out of my TV is pretty sweet. (Video quality not so much.)

Going to need some road points to make it happen, but jeez if these guys can get home ice they could be trouble for somebody.

They need to take at least six points between the Merrimack and Northeastern series. I just hope they don't finish 5th, would much rather finish fourth or sixth.

Maine will struggle with deep teams, the 4th line was getting used most of the game. The first 7 minutes of the 3rd was all Lowell, I thought Maine was done. Once Shore got those 2 shots off on that 1 on 1 the 3rd turned around. great win against a good team and most importantly a good goalie. This might not be your fathers Maine team it sure the heck isn't a Timmay team

After the game someone from FOMH thanked him for the win. Red says, "Don't thank me...I didn't score any goals."

2 recruits at the game tonight. I think they liked what they saw.

With a lot of students not there and most fans sitting on their hands, I've heard a louder crowds at Irish wakes. The team did it on their own with no help from behind the glass. Marty stood on his head and S. Swavely made a couple great plays defensively on River Hawks odd man rushes. The rookie line continues to get more scoring opportunities than the other three cashing in today with their work ethic.

One more small step for confidence building...now to avoid our own Holy Cross moment with AIC. Then we can try to work on winning somewhere other than at Alfond. I can think of someplace warm and sunny that would work :)

Was that also about the same time Lowell called timeout, and Red was pretty demonstrative over on his side of the ice.

I noticed that Will Merchant was in warmups...then saw him again on the ice after the game, but did he even get any ice time..? I never remember seeing him out there.

Of the 2 recruits, was anyone of them a Goaltender..?

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Solid effort tonight beating #7 UML. Solid win all around. Alfond was 2/3 to 3/4 full as far as one could estimate. Not a loud or raucous crowd. A Sunday 4 PM game automatically excludes alot of fans. The student section at the Band end was not full. Alot of folks missed a pretty good game.

Key exchange: Maine gets a PP with 4:03ish to go in the second and comes up empty. Right after the Maine PP, Rutt shoves a UML guy into the corner boards hard, I was 30-40' away. He got Interference. Way closer to Boarding. UML scores immediately to make it 2-2 But here's the thing: Red sat Rutt's big arse down the rest of the night. We never saw #4 again. I hope he got the message. Stupid Useless Penalty with a 2-1 lead and less than 2:00 to go in the period. The ref's arm was up before the UML kid even hit the boards.

Marty was stud tonight as were the Freshman line, Hutton and Shore. Shore's rush, shot and second shot off his own rebound in the 3rd was hot. No goal but great effort.
A couple interesting notes:
We have only 5 guys = or > 200 lbs on the program. The team just seem bigger than that.
Red & staff come out for the 2nd and 3rd and are on the bench two or three minutes before the players come out... never seen that.

The one I saw was way too big to be a goalie. That kid was big. Like Steve Tepper big.

A friend of Jake's just posted in the Facebook group that he's talked to Jake and he gets it. Time will tell.

Also of note: John Diamond from the athletic department approached me to ask about Frozen Fenway. He is trying to measure interest in a bus trip to the games. If that sounds good to you drop him a line. john.diamond@umit.maine.edu

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Maine carried play and was the better team in the 1st period. The River Hawks made adjustments for the 2nd and 3rd period and neutralized Maine's offense. That was an ugly 2nd period. JR's penalty could have cost Maine the game, I noticed he wasn't on the ice during the 3rd period. The River Hawks started playing the body and altered Maine's game. Once again Ouellette was very good and probably won this game. Hellebuyck (sp.), made the stop on the 3rd goal but couldn't quite stop it from going in. Credit Maine for the win, but this River Hawk team is good.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Rutt's penalty was a pointless Joey-moment, and could easily have been a 5-minute major; the game could've been lost right there. I was so happy to see him benched after that one. (As SW once said to a player within my earshot: "Either you'll learn, or you won't play.")

Jake's brain-spasm aside, what an effort by Maine. As Wally said, the ice was definitely tilted for a span, but Marty bailed them out then, and the Bears got their game back in time to take it home.

I don't attend/watch a Maine game anymore while expecting them to eventually screw the pooch... What a big-time improvement over last year in that regard. This team plays as though they expect to win, and that's very refreshing to see.

Some of you guys got to learn that this Maine team is not a pooch screwer :D Have a little faith brothers, but I would like to see a road win. :)
