Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Fun to listen to the TV announcers talk about how brutal Red's practices are, and how, as a result, Maine is in great shape. Music to the ears of all Maine fans.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

The team gave Red some material in the 3rd. Definitely some lackadaisical moments while it was still a 3 goal game with 10+ mins left. Not a complete 60 minutes. But definitely enough of them. :)

Overall good game, some running around, but good effort. Keep playing for each other, work even harder in practice and, GO BLACK BEARS.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

The PP sucked, about the one bad thing I saw tonight. Sticks in the lanes, clearing rebounds before BC got there, fighting for the loose pucks, never letting Johnny hockey dangle, marty was excellent. Hutton is the real deal. Good game for Maine, BC was flat but you could see the talent.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Maine pretty much dictated the way the game was played and BC wasn't able to change it. BC's goal tending was weak and Maine's was very strong with Ouellette playing very well. Important two points for Maine.

after hutton's second, tuell commented that he was leading the team in goals as a d-man

He is 6-3-9. The rest of the defense is 3-9-12.

The only senior who has scored a goal is Anthoine (5-3-8) while the rest of the senior class is 0-4-4. Juniors are 5-9-14. Sophomores are 15-16-31 and freshmen are 10-22-32.

There's such a lag between hitting the road on recruiting trips and results on the ice . . .

Those junior and senior stats show why Whitehead lost his job. Those freshman and sophomore stats show that this program had already started on the road to recovery. For all the complaining -- and I was complaining a long time ago :) -- Whitehead gave Gendron some pieces to work with. I'm happy with the change, but I'm also aware of that good work, and grateful for it.

Pieces,OK, Timmays style sucked, Red has taken those pieces and made a team that competes instead of a team that sits back and watches

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

The last two games were like night-and-day compared to a TW team's effort... (I hate terms like "swagger" and "this is our house", etc., but I love seeing Red looking like he expected to win, and seeing the Alfond looking like a hostile environment for visitors again.)

This team is better than I thought it was. They skated with BC all night long, which amazed me. (Yes, they lost a lot of battles along the boards, and will have to improve there, but I didn't think that Maine would fare so well in the open-ice as they did... They beat the BC blue-chippers in that department many times tonight.)

Marty's stellar play can't be overstated during this transition period. He's given the team as a whole enough breathing-room to figure out how to stop playing scared.

I might just have to look at where the Regionals are sited this year, which I haven't bothered to do in recent years... (Ya never know.)

One more small step. The real tests come this weekend at UVM. There we see what they really got.

Yeah, Hutton's just plain good. Love the puck on his stick.

Johnny Penalty didn't get much done....and who is this McKoshen goon? He might turn out worse than Orpik. Warrants keeping an eye on.

Typical BC team, carving people up with their sticks, hitting Marty after the whistle, the things the BC fans close their eyes to.
