Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I keep reading about the rebuilding years from all of you people. Well I believe the young men who take the ice and play the game don't want to hear that BS. They play the games each year with one purpose, to win a NCAA title with the group they have; just as the pros compete for for the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup. These young men shouldn't have to read this negativity. Lets give the product that's on the ice, trying their best, the support they deserve.

It's important to be negative when it's justified. This year is a good example of what can come from being negative, because we had a regime change and the results have been there, and the players are the ones who make it happen on the ice and they deserve the praise for making it happen; and credit most assuredly goes to the coaching staff as well for turning around a program that wasn't meeting the expectations of a devoted fan base and for holding the players accountable and giving them the tools to be successful.

Betcha Jackie was watching at home, and chomping Rolaids by the handful... (All those odd-mans BU gave up must have churned his evil old guts.)

Marty was tremendous; he stopped everything he could see.

Maine scored two extremely soft goals, and five legit ones; there was major progress in that department.

Still love that Byron/Morgan/Brown line. It's the best that the Bears skate right now.

I'm sticking to my opinion that Maine isn't anywhere near an NCAA berth just yet, but I'm seeing a lot more potential realized than I ever thought I'd see this year, and that is encouraging.
I think Marty was stopping everything he couldn't see as well!

You're an epically silly person.

If you have something to say beyond simply repeating the headlines back to us, then by all means, say it. Otherwise . . .
... post about football.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Sounds like Brunswick's Brian Billett will be making the start for BC this weekend. Demko is nursing a hamstring injury.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I like this deal Maine has lately of playing but one game per weekend, and vs. a prominent program, and having that game nationally-televised, and winning the GD thing...

I hope that I don't sound too ridiculous when I say that I think that Red can have the guys ready for a talented BC team that has yet to hit its stride.

Another W such as last Friday's just has to help his recruiting down the road, and having seen BC twice this year, I'm thinking that its a distinct possibility.

I'll be up Sat night. Can't wait. It's been two years since I last graced Alfond with my presence. :)

Billett took it on the chin last year when Maine lit him up for 7 goals in a 7-4 loss at the Alfond. Sully was in net for the Bears.

Maine is ever so lucky to have Seth and I hope he gets the job on a permanent basis. I think someone with Maine roots who cares about the school/state is a million times better than some out of state 'expert.' He's a genuinely decent person who would put his heart and soul into the job. He was a pretty good athlete too.

I echo your sentiments about Seth. Great guy. I serve on a Board with him but have not been able to chat with him since the announcement was made. However, he already stated publicly that he doesn't want the job and he's still serving on the search committee.

He is “excited” about the opportunity but said he is not interested in the full-time job and is a member of the athletic director’s search committee.

Love reading Red's quotes that a pass on the tape is more important than any strategy and talking about how much more he wants to improve after a 7-0 win. Sounds like there's not going to be any laurels to rest on. Awesome.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

The GPI top 10

1. N Dakota St (1.00)
2. E Illinois (2.00)
3. E Washington (3.43)
4. SE Louisiana (5.00)
5. Maine (5.14)
6. Towson (6.71)
7. McNeese St (7.86)
8. Montana (9.57)
9. Youngstown St (11.00)
10. Sam Houston St (11.86)

The CAA is the second-toughest conference.

#3 Eastern Washington plays #49 Portland State
#4 SE Louisiana plays #72 Nicholls State (Thursday)
#5 Maine plays at #26 New Hampshire
#6 Towson plays #39 James Madison

Maine plays the highest-ranked team and is the only team to play on the road this weekend. If both SE Louisiana and Maine win the race for #4 becomes extremely close. Whoever finishes #5 would (presumably) have to go to #4 to play a QF game. I like Maine's chances if they host SE Louisiana on December 14 than if they have to travel to the Bayou.

Yeah, SE Louisiana in a 10 degree blizzard in December would be cool....literally

Would the game be the 14th or the 7th? I was trying to quickly find an FCS playoff schedule online but was failing at the Googles...

December 14.

Nov 22 = final regular season game
Nov 29 = 1st round (Maine will have a bye)
December 7 = 2nd round (Maine home game)
December 14 = QF round (Maine vs SE Louisiana)

Think you mean Nov 23 and Nov 30. Of course, it should be pretty easy to outscore UNH on the 22nd, as they'll be in class. :D

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Watching Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes play on Center Ice.. Gustav Nyquist started on the #1 line and scored a goal 17 seconds into the 1St Period..Great way to start in his first game since being called up from Grand Rapids

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Why not tack on the GWG as well on a sick breakaway move for good measure. I don't know if they can afford to not to have him playing in Detroit after that game.
