Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

I think I have reached the point where I can't look ahead. I can't look at the incoming recruits and see hope, I can't look at the current freshmen and see potential, I can't look past the current decrepitude and see a light at the end of the tunnel.

At this point it is going to take a lot more than predictions, projections or platitudes to have more than a passing interest.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

That possibly could be the case...hoping not...but hey the AD is fine with the path that RG has forged so far...he said W's & L's are not a worry, the foundation is in place and feels fine with it...ya right...Team/Program has gone down in the last 3 years...have a good chance that 10 wins won't happen...can you believe that under 10 wins and not a-lot of hope for next season(imo). But then again this started happening long ago...this Train Wreck started a few seasons after 2001...things should have been addressed then...but they stayed the course and this is where there at. They will be if nothing gets better through recruiting no more then a 45th to 60th rated Div.1 Team/Program...bottom 4 in Hockey East. Should be interesting how they PITCH next seasons season ticket sales and trying to get anyone to pay the price to see sub standard hockey at top dollars...hard to sell losing, winning brings in money with nary a complaint...but keep stringing along losing seasons and that's a TOUGH SELL to Mainer's.

I think the AD is fine with Red because of the money thats comes in from the outside, the fact that Red is out there selling the program, that Red is very approachable and will talk hockey with anyone.

I don't think that's the reasoning. The Ad is willing to give him two more years to give him a legitimate chance to recruit before buying him out and hiring a different coach. Gendron has nothing to sell right now. Each year the team's performance is worse than the previous. I predict season ticket sales next year will decline further (unless the price drops), leading to less income.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

I think Wally's on to something, Red has a far less acrimonious demeanor than Whitehead did at the end and it's bought him more rope than TW had that last season. Red's been as good to better with fundraising and esp. in Maine that's huge.

The players on the other hand are far far worse. That last TW year was bad but at least you could see that Shore was going to be something. Who can you say that about now?

That's called a "BLEAK FORECAST"....

Now with that said...how do you feel his progress in the 3 years rates on the ice and behind the bench..? Myself I knew there would tough times...but I figured by year 3 this would be a harder working pesky team that you didn't want to play against with some skill upside...

And fundamentally sound.

Theres no question Red and the staff are good hockey people, I question if they are very motivating for the players - a bench problem.
Recruiting may just be a reflection of the team results over the last 10 years, further aggravated by the pending full scholarship funding issue that will further imbalance D1. Hard hole to get out of.

Mr Creech doesn't know what to do.

yeah, I agree but I think the cupboard was empty especially losing Lonberg and peccaro?? I still thought he would get a team in a better place then this. Its almost unwatchable at times(like last friday night I left before 2nd period was over I was so ****ed. The thing that really makes me mad is how many winnable games they lose, again like last friday night. UNH games, winnable, Should have gotten a point against PC, UCONN, it goes on and on. Its frustrating for sure.

Frustrating says it all. And with no answers...which makes it more disheartening.

They actually looked like a legit .500 team tonight. I have no quibbles with their effort at all. They just aren't good enough... But they try hard, bless their hearts.

Kudos to your guys. They could easily have mailed it in and concentrated on seeing the bright lights and big city. Instead, they had our guys back on their heels most of the night. I'm grateful our guys came out of it with their skins.

Shore and Hutton as well.

Now I suppose it's all about setting the tone for next weekends games . BUT it's all irrelevant anyway as neither team stands a snowballs chance in hell against any of the top 4. Why bother ?

yeah, Shore I thought would be gone, maybe Hutton would stay. Either way this team isn't good. if they win another game this season it will be shocking
