Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

What exactly does Jay Leach do for this team? Is his coaching or recruiting stellar? If not......he's probably a candidate for replacement. Bring in someone that can teach them better puck handling, skating, defense, and/or work with goaltenders!

Not sure how teachable stick handling and skating are(either skills you have or don't have) tho certainly they are part of practice. Defense and goaltender work/positioning seem very coachable things. Again, I don't think the teams troubles lie in the coaching so much.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Neither do I, I used to but no more. Its a lack of talent

I think the better question is, could a different coach and staff have been able to coax better players to come here over the last 3 years? I'm not so sure they could have. They would all be fighting against a falling program on the decline. Having said all that, as we've all seen, it can be done(Prov., Lowell), and it's not as simple as a matter of money, tho that helps.

I thought ND was far better than PC

Yes agree, but PC plays such a tough in your face game they cud give ND troubles. And they work very hard at limiting time and space. It will be an interesting matchup. Wonder if Accari (sp) is back yet. One tuff mphker.

I doubt it unless it was a first year guy with a good sales pitch for a resurrection of Maine hockey. Appears to me all the good players available that don't go bu or bc get split between so many good programs now. Tough sledding

I suppose in a single game matchup in the Garden, any of the teams(ND, BC, BU, PC, Lowell) could beat the other.

You get hired in the summer, tough to recruit for fall. Not sure if other guys could have brought in better players or not. Robbins looks good. Rai and Gibson are the 2 I thought could be good but haven't seen it yet.

Agree with you about Robbins. He seems like he could be the real deal and has been emerging of late. I thought Vesey was too but he seems sidetracked now. A lot has to due with ability to improve. Remember Abbott as a freshman? You could tell he had some talent but he got better every year until he could/should have won the Hobey his senior year as he led the nation in scoring.

Yup, Vesey too and also Peccaro, he may have been a tim recruit though

Vesey is a Gendron recruit. Liam Pecararo was recruited by Tim and left the program under Gendron. We will see him at NU this coming season.

Robbins should be a good one, speed, good physical play, good puck sense, scoring will come.
Rai looks to small and timid.
Gibson should be okay, he,s had a few good games. Good size.

Am I crazy to be worried about you guys sweeping my Warriors this weekend? I liked what I saw from the Mack this weekend but going up there always scares me, even if the team is struggling.

It's been a House of Horrors for Maine this season also...they have put up most of there wins(not many)there...could be a split or two ties.........hard to say.

.
He does seem small and the timid part is probably his past history with concussions. Can't say that I blame in him in that regard. Maybe after a year in Orono he'll be more confident?

Do you prefer cats or dogs? That's what the weelend is all about. 11th goes to Northeastern and is swept by dogs, 10th goes to either Burlington or Durham to get swept by cats.
