Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Thank god it's over !

Amen! The come back was just a tease. With NU's skilled players it would have been a fluke if Maine scored the winning goal in OT. All teams qualifying for the tournament is purely a money grab by the league. Final record 8-24-6. Embarrassing!:o:o:o

You are right...ONLY should have 8 teams make playoffs...you need to earn your keep in order to make the playoffs...and with that a 8-24-6 record says it all, hopefully no one sugar coats it...it was BAD.

Only 3 more years to go and then rebuilding can start......again.:o

Anytime you want to write a check for about a million dollars to buy out Red's contract and pay a new coach, I'm sure Susan Hunter will meet with you.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

I give the Maine team credit- they did not look like 8-game winners this weekend. The heart energy they played with was noticeable, and the never-say-die attitude is something I would hang my hat on as a Maine fan. Trust me, I have been through these low-win, low-output seasons, and the turnaround can and will come with time. Took Jim 5 years to earn my trust. If you can get an influx of talent to come through and keep that grind-them-out, fight-for-every-inch mentality, Maine will be a team that opponents will NOT want to face. Tonight's game had me scared from the first puck drop. Maine could easily have won this game.

I wish you all a happy offseason. See y'all again next year. Thanks for a solid weekend of hockey :)

Got to hand to the guys, they didn't quit. Thats the one positive I take from this season. After that their isn't much to cheer about. My biggest beef is the team didn't appear to improve as a whole as season went on. Maybe thats as good as they could be???

Next season isn't going to be much better unless the goaltending improves a ton. I can see Rob being the guy but he'll have to get into shape over the summer. it will be interesting to see the incoming class, we've heard it all before but until they are on the ice....

Gibson and Rai are the 2 guys I'm most disappointed with, Rai has a valid excuse. Red seemed to vent on Gibson a bunch towards the end of the season??? Robbins is the guy I'm most impressed with, could be a Mangene type with his speed. Needs to bulk up some.

All and all a shi tty season, FORE

WVII 7 and Fox22 just extended their current contract with the University for 2 years to broadcast hockey and football games. Seven hockey games will be televised with the possibility of two more flex games.

After 38 years I've decided to give up my tickets. I can watch them on TV and I will go to selected games.

Effort has not been an issue all season and I do give them credit for a great comeback. However, I thought other than Roy's snipe to win it, N.E.'s goals were soft.

Effort has not been an issue all season and wasn't last night. Great comeback, but they lost on what's burned them all year, a costly turnover. I thought other than Roy's snipe to win it, N.E.'s goals were soft. Overall , a very long and frustrating season, worst sine '82-'83. I can't see us getting any worse next year, perhaps a slight improvement with some of the new recruits, but still bottom half of H.E.

One slight glimmer of hope I have is the AD will likely move on before the next three years. Maybe won't mean a thing but maybe it will.

Agree - hopefully the coaching staff is in full panic mode and show up to the office Monday morning working on next season.
Guess the ice will come out of the alfond soon.

"IF" that should happen(who knows really)...lets hope that the person that takes over("IF")has a back ground in hockey...Creech is over his head with this sport...you don't just turn the switch on and KNOW hockey, its like everything else...you have to KNOW...to make it work.

For this Program to go ahead and in a positive way the MODE will have to be 24-7-365.

That sucks, I'm in the same boat. I missed many games this year, tickets sat unused on my fridge. If someone will split them with me I'll keep them if not, I'm done also.

I think this way every last 2-3 years...I am sticking it out at least one or two more years...but to all that do give them up...let the AD know WHY...you may think it won't help...but it won't hurt either.

I had unused tickets as well. I'm having trouble justifying spending that kind of money on watching a less than mediocre team. I'm sure eventually the team will improve and I'll pay to watch them play some of the better teams occasionally.
