Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

You have to tell us now.
I was going to do one word but it came out too mean..so I'll just say this. Some players can be coached hard. Some players can't handle it. When you are a star, let's say Macklin Celebrini was on this team, they could commit a bad penalty on a shift and while you may "give it to them" are you really going to bench them? No way. And there are other players who are good, and have the talent to be very good, and they do stupid shit and then don't expect any accountiblity for it or make excuses. Maybe that happened. I think right now you are seeing a culture house cleaning. Does it make it right? No. But if you are a star you have your talent to fall back on and coaches know it.

It reads a lot like Barr saying "there has never been a larger talent pool for Maine to pull from" and he can cut bait on the malcontents that don't fit. With how frantic things got with the CHL players last year, it seems like Barr got a trial by fire and had to learn some hard lessons about just getting the best talent he could. Being able to balance culture fit without sacrificing talent is going to be the real test for him and his scouting staff, especially in a player landscape that's becoming increasingly more geared toward 1 or 2 years at most.

You are right on the money. Chasing draft pick stars sometimes just doesn't work. Better off having hard working players that elevate eachother.

Yeah this has been his mantra from day 1. What spilled out of the locker room last season was surprising in that it didnt line up at all with what Barr has been preaching for the previous 4 years. Makes me wonder wtf is going on.

Tanner Klimpke seems like a good middle 6 winger. Good size, wore a C as a junior. I doubt the offensive production translates to Hockey East, but hopefully it's a good culture fit.

He's got decent size to him and has 10+ goals all three years. I'm not overwhelmed but there's enough to be excited about.

Plus his younger brother is a decent D apparently. He's currently committed to UND but that means nothing nowadays.

So as things currently stand, the roster looks something like:
Fowler - Scott - Campbell?
Voronin
- Lipinski - Fleece
Klimpke - Scholle - Russell
Pichette - Komorov - Gerrior

Extra: James

Langois - Peterson
Usereau - Lafton
Bales - Siciliano

Extra: Wasmer

Boija
Wickstrom-Stumer

Ignore line combinations. I tried to make it work as best I could but there's a ton of lefties

Bales is pretty versatile and played both sides of the ice so given how thin the right side, I'd expect him to play there.

That will allow Lafton to stay on the left side, where he played all season for Dubuque.
